No parts of it are still sketchy.  You have to know which neighborhoods within Hyde Park to live.  see.  http://www.city-

DC lives in Hyde Park.  There are sketchy parts; however, wide spread gentrification is happening both because of he University and the Obama library.
The diiferences have been remarkable just in the last two years.  The big discussion in Chicago now is that Hyde Park will be unaffordable for current local residents much like what has occurred in the DC neighborhhoods.   In terms of crime rates, I believe that Cambridge comes in highest of the schools discussed.  The downside of all the upside from being near or in a city.[/quote]
