First case of Ebola acquired in Europe

That's a major reason there is no vaccine or drug for Ebola. It is sporadic and usually doesn't last too long.

For me, that's a reason for optimism here. I have little faith in our government's ability to get on top of this. But I do think our physicians and research scientists will do everything possible to come up with cures or vaccines. But it will take a while.

The Madrid regional government is going to euthanize the dog belonging to the Spanish nurse. Dogs may carry and transmit Ebola.

Just wait for the PETA crazies to go nuts over this...

There's no way it survives a bleach bath. That's absurd.

Hes lying?

Don't be ridiculous. He doesn't know for sure how he was exposed. He's been living in Liberia for a long time. For all anyone knows, it could have happened on an entirely different day, in an entirely different setting.

Absurd. Just monitor the dog for 21 days. 3 weeks in a crate is better than DEAD.

There is zero chance that he messed up in some way?

Maybe he's confused. Maybe he used a minuscule amount of bleach. Maybe he contracted it another way.

It is absolutely impossible the right concentration of chlorine is not lethal to the ebola virus. Chlorine kills everything, even you and me in the right concentration.

This. Bleach works differently. Time/dose dependent. Decontamination is not 100%. I read the fluid splashed in his face---apparently still some live virus.

People in affected countries are experiencing the equivalent of the Black Death. Of course they are going to leave if they can, getting to a country where there is hope of good treatment would be top on my list if I knew I was exposed. Wouldn't be on yours?
I understand that we don't want to put a travel ban on affected countries. I don't understand why we can't ban non essential travel.

Obama is dropping the ball. I support him generally but this time, I'm very unhappy with the lack of action.

He probably picked it up using the bathroom. You can't wear a Hazmat suit using the toilet.

Exactly! They have to kill a dog that can easily be isolated but they let uncontrollable humans wander free even if they are Ebola carriers. How would the dog catch it anyway. They don't even share a bathroom. Thought it was hard to catch.

You are speculating while he was there. How can you be so presumptious to feel you know more than the man who is actually there!?

Ill bite though. If he didnt work with ebola patients directly, the how do suppose he caught it? How was he directly exposed to their bodly fluids?

But doesnt that make it easily transmitted?

I read it was a 50/50 solution
