What franchises have you seen in other parts of the country that you wish were in the D.C. area?

Ugh, don't bring back Farrell's. Update the old-fashioned ice cream parlor with real, quality ice cream (which Farrell's did not have). And it was so fake. I'm not saying I didn't go to the one in Tenleytown and stuff my face once or twice, but it just wasn't good.

This is. The guy restored antique equipment and makes classic flavors, but the whole experience is more artisanal* than hokey. *yes, I know, overused, but in this case...

Roy Rogers is in the Belle View Shopping Center off GW Parkway, near Old Town Alexandria. Great Trigger burgers

I love Roy Rogers....yes, let's get another one here!

I can't eat at Roy Rogers ever again after on a business trip my assistant said (about the one in the Trenton train station), "It smells like rancid grease in here"

The one in the nasty old Trenton train station was the worst Roy Rogers I had ever seen. Sadly, it was the only place to buy anything to eat in that awful place.

he original Chuy's in Tucson is the best.

PP mentioned Jamba Juice. We used to drive out of our way to go to Whole Foods in Clarendon - there was a Jamba Juice inside. For whatever reason it's gone... I would LOVE a Jamba Juice and that's a national chain. Robek's and Tropical Smoothie don't compare.

Jason's Deli
Spicy Pickle

Jack in the Box is disgusting!

There are several Jason's Deli's around... Falls Church and Fair Lakes, off the top of my head. I'm from Oklahoma and I haven't heard this one yet - Braum's. Delicious ice cream and burgers and the nicer ones have a mini grocery aisle where you can pick up milk and other goodies. Mmmmmm.

Of course, would settle for an In-n-Out.

I've made the drive to Fredericksburg for Sonic...

Yes, Braum's! I doubt it would ever happen, but what I wouldn't do for a cappuccino chocolate chunky milkshake... And Sonic. (Yes I also lived in OK)
Which-wich (closest one is down in Charlottesville)
TooJay's (south Florida deli)

So excited that Cafe Rio (from Utah) is here now...

I'm also from Oklahoma and would love a Braum's. Or a Sonic. Or a Taco Bueno. Miss them all! I'd add Hobby Lobby but we finally got one of those close by enough.

Still exists - at least in MN.

Yes, this very much still exists. It's from Ohio and they are everywhere. When we go back, my husband loads up.

Has anyone said Fatburger -- a Las Vegas chain yet?

And there are outer lying Sonics in Fredericksburg and Winchester. Good for a day trip.

I had Sonic for a week down in NC, it was pretty nasty. It made feel awful after eating it, and the cherry limeade or whatever tasted like cough syrup-it was a real letdown since I had heard so much about it

Shakeys Pizza and Bennigans.

There is a Dave and Buster's at the White Flint Mall.

White Flint is being torn down/redeveloped at some point soon. Bloomingdales has already closed. Not sure what will happen to the D&B.

A sign of age - I remember when White Flint was first built and how glamorous it was. It was the first place I drove by myself after I got my license.
