International trip for 5th graders?

Anonymous
My kid is already grades ahead in English so I don't care about the English instruction. Easy to supplement if we had to. We send DC to YY for the Mandarin.

Really? My grades ahead kid is sooo bored in English at Yu Ying. Doesn't want to go to school on English days.

It's my understanding Yu Ying gets public dollars to teach Mandarin AND English, but I could be mistaken.

My kid is in K. Having English classes is a novelty after preK and he enjoys it and tells me he has fun - the point of K. Don't particulary care about English instruction obviously since we sent him to preK that was all in Mandarin. Wish K was only in Mandarin like preK.

can someone just answer the question about the kids NOT GOING on this trip?
What happened to them?

Or, rather, what will happen to them? This question has been asked several times and yet, no one has an answer. Why?

It is a new school year. Back to school night hasn't happened yet.

Probably because no one knows. Possibly because this group will be a subset of the ~25 students in the class that is going on the trip, and no one in that subset of families feels like posting this info on DCUM. But the only people who really need this info are the families not going. Or perhaps the families deciding whether to go or stay. DCUM gawkers don't need to know.

Not all of us are gawkers. Some of us have kids in the immediate rising classes and we are debating the merits v. disadvantages of the trip.

Can I point out the obvious? Why oh why are you asking DCUM?? Have you asked the school??? I did, and got a perfectly satisfactory answer, but I'm not going to share it with you or anyone else who needs to learn where to get accurate information to specific questions.

Because if you are the parent of a 3rd or 4th grader, the administration will tell you that doesn't impact your child who is not yet in the "trip eligible" grade, and will not answer the question. See related thread on where you learn important info about your school -- PA list serve, DCUM, playground, official school communication. . . . .

Why on earth would you be afraid to share your perfectly satisfactory answer with your peer parents who are trying to plan in advance for this trip? Or are you just enjoying your role as queen bitch?
