My African students have made it clear that they don't agree with the blanket African American ethnicity box for all.
Personally, I think MOST people in the US are too far removed from their roots to claim any sort of connection, and I wish we would eliminate these labels altogether. |

Is this a slam? If so, I know my roots. My family came over from Italy in the late 40s. I grew up bilingual and learned how to cook from scratch. And what then do you think of my African students' opinion? Their opinion means nothing? If it wasn't a slam, then this WHITE PERSON finds it hard to detect tone on a forum. |
Exactly...you know your roots. So, it's easier for you to be able to say it's not so important anymore. If your ethnicity is not that important to you, fine. But you don't get to dictate what others choose to do. |
