I am surprised by all the bad hosts here. You have a party for kids, but don't serve food? And even worse, say the parents shouldn't expect to be fed, because they were "not invited"? That's outrageous. No one said a full 5 course meal needs to be served, but appetizers, at least, along with the cake and drinks. If you are angry and resentful that guests would have the gall to expect to be fed when you have invited them to your home, then scale back your plans so you have host a proper party. |
I'm surprised by the amount of folks on here who cannot plan ahead and eat a quick pb sandwich before or after a party which is for children. |
They can. This isn't about people who can't plan ahead. It's about hosts who don't provide the bare minimum at a supposed "party" that nobody forced them to throw. |
They committed to throw a children's party. |
I am surprised that on DCUM folks are competing to see who can be the worst party host instead of bragging about the easy peasy foie gras and truffle bento box lady bug shaped appetizers they made. |
I am surprised at how cheap people are that they cannot put out simple food at a kid's party. |
I actually think this is about guests who can't be particularly appreciative or gracious that someone invited them to a party that wasn't exactly the same way they would have done it. Guess what? Throw your own darn party. Do it they way you want. But don't criticize others for doing it the way that makes the most sense for them and their kids. |
I can't believe what bad hosts are there out there. It's so odd to defend bad hosting. Personally I'd feel awful if someone left my party starving. If you continue to think it is ok to not feed your guests, continue defending it. Why would you not want to feed your guests?!?!?!?! |
OP, this happened to me for the first time a couple of months ago at a 5 year old party.
When you have a party, for kids or adults, as a host it is your job to feed and offer beverages. It's tasteless to invite people to a party and have them leave hungry. It's just not appropriate. Even if it's not during a meal time, you should atleast have finger foods, crackers and cheese or something. I agree with PP, why would you NOT want to feed your guests? |
Chicken nuggets and hot dogs won't break the bank. I really don't understand why people would not want to put food out. |
I only have two fears when I throw a party: 1) that no one will show up and 2) that I won't have enough food for my guests |
Totally agree. |
Do you want your kid's guests to want to return for the next birthday? If so, feed them. Goodness. |
At one level I agree but you will get just as many people complaining that you feed their kids processed crap and that you are a bad host for doing so. You are damned if you do and damned if you don't. This thread appalls me. |
I think you should only expect snacks at a kid's party, for the kids. Parents don't need any special food or drinks. The party is for the kids and kids don't need or want big meals at a party. |
