I had no idea or guidance from my parents when I was just out of college. We were UMC but they had both grown up LMC, first in their families to graduate college. I realized my friends were saving for retirement but then I went to grad school. I did not start until age 30, but 30 years later will have a federal pension and have over 2M in my TSP and will have max SS when I take it. We are lucky that our parents, 4 sets b/c divorce, are all fine financially.
I make it a point to talk with the young people I supervise about investing for retirement. We talk with our kids about the importance of retirement savings starting early. |
Any job site you go to people are in their 60s. Law offices, medical offices, retail offices, political offices. Also some people don’t want to stay home and not work. They like being out in the public and keeping busy. |
