Dean J. (she/her) is correct: they now conduct a holistic review. But please read between the lines on her blog. She’s exceptionally aware of the Supreme Court’s prohibition on race-based admissions, but she’s also aware of the exceptions: - universities are still permitted to consider “proxies.” Meaning: if UVA sets internal diversity goals, they can try to achieve them through considering proxies for race. For example, it would be unlawful to set a quota for Latinx students. But, the admissions office can still consider (and heavily weight) a student whose first language was Spanish. Being a native speaker of Spanish doesn’t necessarily mean a person is Latinx. |

What were her uw gpa and weighted gpa? SAT? |
| Any deferrals here? |
| What was the “she/her” part about? |
| Any thoughts about max rigor/all APs except taking regular Calculus? History/Classics intended major. |
UVa is honest and serious about max rigor in all subjects. That has been clear for decades now. Yes, exceptions to this do exist, but they are not common. Most involve candidate-specific factors. No one here actually can tell you if your DC is an exception. |
Dean J. is free to identify as she wishes. You have a problem with that, PP? |
Probably this “Peabody is the building, Jack is the dog, and I'm Dean J (she/her, btw). There are years of posts here. The search box works well, but please consider the age of the posts when you find them. The college admission process changes every year! References to emailing updates to your application are from the years when we didn't have the current applicant portal. Please follow the instructions in your portal to submit all updates. Welcome to the blog and thanks for reading! ” |
| The holistic review applies to the regular decision cycle too. |
| Many exceptions to "max rigor" although it's hotly contested here for some bizarre reason. |
All college apps also has the kid identify themselves as he/him or she/her.. and thats what Dean J is referring to . |
| Do you think UVA will go back to requiring SAT scores, like UT Austin now has? |
Yes. Nearly all universities will soon drop T.O. |
I'm frankly shocked it has taken this long. |
