Dean J keeps stressing that UVA does a holistic review. But in reality all they look at is course selection ( did u take the hardest courses) and what grades did u get. So is the “holistic” part just an act to be like a more “elite” school?
Dean J. (she/her) is correct: they now conduct a holistic review. But please read between the lines on her blog. She’s exceptionally aware of the Supreme Court’s prohibition on race-based admissions, but she’s also aware of the exceptions: - universities are still permitted to consider “proxies.” Meaning: if UVA sets internal diversity goals, they can try to achieve them through considering proxies for race. For example, it would be unlawful to set a quota for Latinx students. But, the admissions office can still consider (and heavily weight) a student whose first language was Spanish. Being a native speaker of Spanish doesn’t necessarily mean a person is Latinx. W/quote] why are you reactivating a thread that ended on Nov 24?
