It took me over 10 years to obtain my green card, and I’m educated, white, young and well off. My heart breaks for these dreamers who came here in the hopes of making a better life for themselves and their families. In my experience, many of them are hard workers (in jobs Americans would never stoop to doing) and trying to do the best they can with a very shitty hand that they were dealt at birth. Many of them have US citizen minor children too.

It probably wouldn't take as long or be as expensive if all the resources weren't being allocated to dealing with those coming illegally when they feel like it. And if there are jobs employers can't fill, they are supposed to petition immigrant visa to fill those jobs.

Please. I'm married to an immigrant (similar demographic to PP) who went through the process decades ago. PP is right.

It is not difficult or complicated. It may be expensive and it does take a long time. Walking up to the border is essentially cutting in line of everyone immigrating by the rules. And it is everyone immigrating by the rules that are essentially paying for the those walking up to the border.

There are reasons why there are rules.

Being granted asylum doesn't mean you cut in line. JFC that's the most insane take I've heard so far.

What do you guys have to say about all the ICE arrests of people at immigration courts? You know, the people doing the process the correct, legal way? Imagine being moments away from being granted citizenship after going through the process for 6 years. Watching the video of that guy's defeated face as he was dragged away was heartbreaking. He did everything correctly. He was there for his final hearing to be granted citizenship.

The right doesn't want a safer US. They want a whiter US. Periodt.

They are at immigration court to begin with because they did not follow the rules. They entered illegally. When you immigrate legally and by the rules, there is no need to ever go to immigration court.

I do think people understand the difficulty in “becoming legal” there are so many barriers. It’s not like going to theDMV showing documents and the. You get a license.

They don't even want them in their schools. They want them to be someone else's problem. Just check the FCPS School thread.

Their home country should be responsible for providing their education.

You have zero idea how immigration works.

Also, the education system in this country clearly failed you so maybe they would be better off.

This is how I know immigration to work.

In the 80's, my uncle and his wife were top students at the top university in their home country. The immigrated to the US. After getting settled, he petitioned for family members to come. We waited for several years in our home country until granted entry. After getting settled, my parents then petitioned for my mothers side of the family to come. They waited for years in their home county until granted entry.

That's how I know immigration to work.

Walking up to the border expecting to be taken into custody and released is not how it is supposed to work. Coming in with a temporary visa and not leaving when it expires is not how it is supposed to work.

Nicely done! Now, please explain how asylum works.

the left abused it and it became a scam to let everyone in

The problem with what this administration is doing is that they are cancelling the lawful presence (including parole, TPS, applicants for asylum or other relief, and others) of people who are in the US, thus rendering them illegal, and then deporting them.

This is both unconscionable and directly targeting people who are trying to follow the (crazy!) immigration rules of the U.S. It makes me sick.

Parole was Joseph Biden's way of "cleaning up the border" by just flying illegals straight into the country. It was all another open border method. TPS has been abused for years. I am happy for all of these people, who are economic migrants, plain and simple, to go home.

Ummm... why do we need to make it easy to become legal? We don't need to let in unending numbers of people; it should be for our benefit. And by "our," I mean the entire country, not just suburbanites looking for cheap housekeepers.

I agree, but the folks on these threads don't mind having poor immigrants here as long they don't go to school with their kids. They want other schools to take the burden.

True. It has hit the tipping point.
Pp mentioned taxpayers wanting them out of FCPS but there was a thread on Arlington public schools a while back that was exactly the same sentiment. Arlington was sued for segregating the poor immigrants to certain schools and the courts forced them to mix with UMC schools. That thread was ugly. And Arlington, like Fairfax County, consistently votes for open borders but complain when open borders directly impacts their own kid's schools.

This has nothing to do with illegal or legal immigrants. This is the fascist taking over.

Oh good grief. Grow up. The immigration problem can't be allowed to continue. Someone is actually enforcing the laws on the books. About time. No foreign person has a right to live here.

That “someone” is the same person who killed bipartisan immigration legislation to reform the mess we have. He did that just so he could win the election and play commander in chief with troops against American citizens.

Please, that legislation codified continuing incursions over the border. It was a joke.

When literally millions of people came into the country without documentation, there was definitely an open border. And I immediately laugh at all Democrats who say that they are against an open border, but protest and sue to stop any attempt at either enforcement of deportation orders or the cessation of benefits to illegals. Just out with it... make your case for "no borders" and a welfare state that provides for whoever shows up. We can see how politically popular it is.

Don’t send us your tired, your poor.
Keep your own huddled masses — they don’t need to breathe free.
We don’t want your wretched refuse and don’t care about your teaming shore
Don’t send these
homeless tempest tossed to us
We’ve turned off our lamp
and shut our golden door.

First, a poem written by a 19th century woman doesn’t set immigration policy. Next, our country has gone through multiple cycles of high immigration and then decades where it is slowed. Next, we have radically changed our country since 1965 through admission of millions and millions of “huddled masses.” At this point in our economy, we need to educate and encourage our own citizens to work in the diminishing number of low tech jobs. We have people who are chronically unemployed and on welfare/disability, substance abusing, etc. and then import people to do basic jobs. We also import a huge number of students and white collar workers when our own STEM graduates are underemployed and AI job cuts are being announced by major companies. At a certain point , we need to focus on our own citizens before the fantasy that we can rescue every person in the world who wants to come here.

If only Trump did not grant clemency to illegal criminals working on farms, hotels and golf courses! Oh and Trump said he will not roundup anyone in a red state!

lol another show for Fox. Sanctuary states what a joke! How stupid are you people ?

Democrats want increased increased social safety nets and universal healthcare, but also want an open border and easy access to citizenship. How is that going to work?
