I wasn't overweight until my disability had a major impact on my life. If any one of the judgmental people on here saw me sitting down you would assume I'm just another lazy fool eating nothing but junk. I don't need to explain or justify myself to an a**hat online, though.
You suck, OP. |
People go bankrupt for healthcare because our insurance system is criminal. If everyone woke up skinny tomorrow, nothing would change. You'd just have to find a new excuse to put your blame on. You're not at all concerned with the suffering of others when you're talking about waging war on them. "I'm sorry if you're fat, but if you are, you need to be abused". Right. Because that helps SO many people. Let's try your theory: You are a disgusting excuse for a human being. |
Some people have to hate. They'd be racist/sexist/homophobic if they thought they could get away with it. They hate fat people because it's a culturally acceptable pathology (for now). The actual science and research shows that the "shame and blame" approach hurts far more than it helps, so anyone using it is telling on themselves. |
How do people not take care of themselves? Life gets in the way. When my husband was deployed, my kids were in a lot of activities and I worked full time. It was a challenge to work a 40+ workweek, get the kids to where they needed to be, get dinner on the table, exercise, and get enough sleep. Oftentimes, we ate out (because I didn’t have time to cook) and I neglected exercise (because I didn’t have the energy after getting up at 5:30 am and getting home at 9:00 pm). I eventually pulled them out of their activities in order to have a semblance of a better life, but you know… I get criticized for that, too. Can’t win! |
This is the snobbiest, most privileged post I’ve seen. OP and others live in a fancy bubble of smugness. |
Probably nobody assumes anything or even thinks about it. We are talking about a population level crisis. The majority of obese people do not have a disability that caused their problems. I can’t wrap my head around how people who don’t have extreme circumstances can accept being so overweight. It’s crazy. It makes you miserable. It doesn’t even take much to do something. Hell, eat at McDonald’s just eat half of what you normally do. You simply do not need that much food. |
DP 100 years ago obesity wasn't a thing. Stop making excuses!! |
Well said. Thank you. |
I bet OP has an eating disorder and compares its body with other people’s bodies. Sad. |
Actually, it was. I have family pics from 1890-1940 which prove otherwise. Back then most of my relatives didn't have thyroid medication, so they just got really large and then died early of stroke. |
People with obesity tend to have higher rates of childhood trauma than the general population (the ACEs studies are enlightening).
Cultural norms that tolerate and excuse abuse and the lack of adequate mental health treatment both contribute to the obesity epidemic. Rather than shaming people, you can take political action to support trauma survivors, OP. Channeling your energy in a healthy direction may also help you manage your anger. |
That’s not true. Go look at silent movies or old paintings of nudes. |
Obesity existed. This does not excuse the staggering 40%+ obesity rate in America now. Obesity was rare 100 years ago. But Americans cling to their cars and their food culture and say that being fat is what a “real woman’s” body looks like. |
Well, you provided a perfectly reasonable explanation for a valid question. America is desperately unhealthy. It's not crazy to ask why. |
America must have insanely traumatic childhoods. |
