You can’t redshirt in public school unless you have a documented academic reason and the vast majority of kids regrading are entering a private school as freshmen. That’s not a huge population.

More will move to private schools with this change.

This is especially true if the school choice wave sweeping the nation comes our way.

😆
In the area with several of the top public schools in the entire country, people are going to start paying $40,000 a year for private school because of ecnl soccer? Haha

It's official, just read the 7/1 press release. I cannot find a link, but I am sure someone has one

You can't find the link to the press release you just read? Did you have a paper version? Humor us some more and copy/paste the text of the release.

Shocked this thread doesn't have more activity at the moment--this is probably the biggest news in youth soccer since the collapse of the DA...

Haha what. There is another thread on the exact same topic and zero proof.

Am I missing something? If your kid is red shirted, then they should be playing with the kids that would be in their grade had they not been red-shirted. There is a cut-off birthday to be able to play in an age group, regardless of what their graduation grade would be. These kids wouldn’t be playing “up”, they would be playing in their age group, not with their school peers, Choosing to red-shirt your kid for academic reasons, should not give them an advantage on the pitch.

At what age do people decide to hold their kid back a year?
Kindergarten? Elementary school?

Based on Professional Medical advice because of obvious mental and physical deficiencies?

So how many clubs are gonna force their trapped players who are already on U13-U15 teams to play with their new ECNL-sanctioned age group? I can think of a few on various really good teams (including Arlington 2011s) that will be forced “down” and I doubt any of the parents will be happy about it. Will they continue to let them play “up” until the crucial recruiting years (sophomore and junior years)?

Often the pre-school teachers recommend some younger kids (usually boys) to do another year in pre-school if they think they are not mature enough for K.

Yes, and my kid we did that for is not into sports in the slightest. It was the right choice for him and he's done great. At this point what sports even are tied to schools primarily? Football? Track?

Wonder what percentage of red-shirt are recommended by medical professionals versus parents who just want a perceived advantage
