What restaurant does everyone love but you think is meh?

I had the exact same experience. I used to love Rasika (more than a decade ago) but when we recently brought out-of-town guests there, the chicken was so dry I couldn’t eat more than a few bites. The palaak chat was still pretty good but also seemed to have more filler (panko?) than before. So disappointed.

Yes! I just ate at Zaytinya a couple weeks ago as a reunion get-together with a friend that moved away from DC 7 years ago and was in town on a work trip. We were both so happy to see the quality is still top notch and the restaurant looks great and our service was excellent during a busy lunch service. Yes, it's sticking with a time-tested model as I think it's been open for 15 years, maybe longer? If I still lived in DC I probably would focus on more exciting and new restaurants, but Zaytinya is still as good as it's ever been.

It opened 22 years ago. I raised a kid from birth to adulthood in that span, and haven’t been to Zaytinya since before DC was born. I will have to go back now!

Me too! My husband and I went to their pre opening tasting night! Amazing back then.

Restaurants started phoning it during Covid and haven’t gone back.
