This is terrible but my thought too. The DCC schools seem to have less issues this year.

They're just not getting caught.

Exactly. I am new to this thread. Only found it trying to get more information on the gun issue at WJ. I didn't realize how much jealousy there was. I have never even discussed other schools with my friends or family. It just doesn't come up. I feel sorry for these people that think "W School" parents are constantly thinking about them and their schools and comparing. You really need to worry about yourself, your school, and your child. I think most of you should stay off of forums and social media altogether. It seems like it is having negative impacts on your mental health.

Yes. Seriously. The non-W people are so bitter that they are enjoying the fact that someone brought a gun to a W school. How pathetic and sad. I do feel for them because anyone that reacts that way is obviously in pain and projecting that pain onto others. As for the teen, we need to know more. How are parents supposed to send their kids to WJ today without knowing what the intent was and if it was an isolated incident?

No, you don't.

-parent who sent their kid to Clarksburg HS on February 16, 2018, without knowing what the intent was and if it was an isolated incident

You are sadly mistaken. You doing it and nothing happening does not prove your point. You are just wrong. Not to mention, the climate is a little different right now than it was in 2018, but thanks for your useless input.

Right and there is also a false sense of security that having an SRO in every school will deter or prevent student or staff from walking into school with a gun. It hasn’t and it won’t.

What a POS you must be to hear this news and attempt an " I told you I was right"
Wow.
Wj has over three thousands students so it is more likely to happen there than other places. .

I am impressed the student who saw it showed leadership and responsibility and reported it. I can think of a few schools where that part wouldn't have happened.

Will add to this so glad I put my daughter who is zoned for WJ into an all girls school where guns will never likely be an issue.

I have news for you about girls.

The majority of school shootings happen in large public schools by males. This is a fact.

You are all assuming that this was for a "typical" school shooting. None of you know anything about it though.

Ugh... yuck. This stuff is now spilling into Bethesda. What is next, Potomac???

I agree with PPs who are calling out the snobby W parents on here.

If you aren't a snobby W parent, you have no reason to get huffy. If you are, you should take a step back and reconsider your snobbery. This gun BS is everywhere now. How about you focus on helping with that instead of sitting back and criticizing other schools all the time.

Here’s the thing. I’m a “w parent”. I’m not snobby, I work very very hard to send my kids to WJ but I recognize that I’m fortunate to do so. I’m huffy because our kids were in danger today and there are a bunch of a$$hole$ on here making this a w school vs other schools thing.
Start your own gd thread and let the adults discuss the matter at hand

DP but W parents do that all the times.
Had that been a non-W school, W parents would be here calling the school all kind of names, ganglandia, crime-infested etc...
So cry me a river.

Exactly. They’re constantly putting our schools down for having high FARMS rates, lower test scores, high rates of Hispanic students, etc.

Maybe now they can realize that the W schools aren’t an impenetrable palace of perfection and join the rest of us in the business of improving MCPS, instead of acting like it’s somebody else’s problem.

I think you should see about therapy and stop projecting your insecurities on others. It is no way to live life. Seriously.

W parents are such gaslighters.

Maybe you all should try a different school system so we don't have to see your comments on this thread

Sucks to be bashed, doesn’t it?

Not as much as it sucks to not be at a W school so enjoy. Jealousy is not a pretty color on you. I'd change the look.

Wait wait wait…hold the phone. You super gracious and empathetic W parents NEVER bash our schools!
Here’s all the proof you need people. Some W parents SUCK A$$.

You are the only ones trying to prove your point about being bashed. I really think you all need help. This forum should not impact your lives the way it clearly is. Remember, your kids are in high school, not you. It is time to grow up and move on.

Since self awareness is not your strong suit, I’m sure you don’t see the irony of your post.

I think it is hysterical that you all can't figure out when you are being trolled. Take a deep breath, a sip of coffee, and put your phones down.

We might get more info on this kid since he’s being charged as an adult, but that will only come from the court case, not MCPS. They will always hide behind privacy laws to justify not saying more.

NP with only daughters. What's this news, exactly? The reality is that chances of gun violence (any type of violence really) goes down dramatically in female-only settings. Is it zero? No. But I'll take a 5 fold reduction of odds anyway.

We used to live in a town with an all-girls charter public school. Kicking myself that we live here now. We can't afford all girls private but I'd do it in a heartbeat if I could.

I am a "non-W" person and I posted earlier that I reacted very differently to this incident than the referenced PP. This incident is terrifying, and it's not normal to react by saying "see! your schools are not safe!". I don't know anyone IRL who would react this way. Especially since the most recent school shooting was at a "non-W" school. None of our schools are safe.

That being said your comment is mean and immature, and I'm guessing you are one the posters that the referenced PP was addressing.

WJ has never really been a true "W" school...

Another Clarksburg parent here. Actually what is perhaps relevant is that the kid brought in a gun "as protection" after Parkland. He was also a good student, which is what I hear about the WJ kid as well (BB gun or not). With the Clarksburg kid, he was influenced by outside current events. How do we know what this kid's motivations were?

The point is:
#1 The world is crazy right now. #2 Teens are hormonal and haven't developed their brains fully. #3 And we have easy and ready access to firearms. We have little control over #1+#2 but as a society we could do something about #3 if we cared enough.

There was a shooting this year at a small private
