Oh, Chevy Chase (DC affordable housing)!

It will be illegals and crackheads the way MoCo runs things in 10-20 years.

In a majority luxury market-rate building co-located with a community center? Doubtful. And they will still have to pay the subsidized rent to live there.

Also what does MoCo have to do with it?

Please don't call people illegals. It is undocumented workers.

The Chevy Chase strip has a small town, nostalgic feel. You can see the sky. The mom and pop shops and smaller buildings create a unique, neighbor-specific vibe that distinguishes CC from other DC neighborhoods.

This development will change that.

All “Connor McCarthy” has to say is “no comment,” or even “can I give you a comment without attribution?” What kind of person can be that rich and successful but also that stupid?

He's not some random guy, either--he's on the ANC's standing committee on zoning and development https://anc3g.org/standing-commitees/zoning-design-and-development-zdd-standing-committee/ and he's a real estate professional.

Why would a real estate expert move across the street from an aging community center if he wanted certainty around the future of his little section of the neighborhood?

His profile on his employer's website says he's a 4th-gen Washingtonian so maybe he inherited or was given the house?

The quotes from him are too extreme to make sense. It's like he's trying to generate potential NIMBY clients who are selling or buying.

This, 100%.

The city has shown that it cannot manage crime around low income housing - gang shootings, drug sales and other serious crimes are always clustered around that. Like well over 90% of the city’s serious crimes are either in the vicinity of the housing or come from gangs based around the area.

Don't feed the trolls.

Oh for goodness sake. It’s a five story apartment complex, not a skyscraper. You’ll still be able to “see the sky.”

The public transit is pretty poor and they are quite sleepy.

Some actually do use the opportunity to improve their lives -- get away from negative influences, better schools for their kids, better job opportunities, better retail, more outdoor recreation opportunities. But unfortunately, many others maintain their bad habits and bad friends and fail to understand that these areas are nice because people adhere to certain social and behavioral norms.

It is such a class/education thing. Lower SES are not brought up with/raised with mainstream/DCUM norms (i.e., don't litter, don't loll about on benches smoking pot, don't scream at all hours of the night, don't leave your PIt Bull's dog poop everywhere). Navy Yard has a lot of these mixed income developments . . .

As I understand it the (now reduced to an) 8 story building will offer a mix of affordable housing and luxury units. The presumption is the affordable housing residents will use public transit (though is this always the case?).
Where will the residents of the luxury units park their multiple vehicles?

I’m sure they will figure it out. The rest of the city has.

The rest of the city has access to public garages. The CC area does not. They will park in the surrounding neighborhood.

They trash their neighborhood then move to a new neighborhood to trash.

They park in the neighborhoods in the rest of the city. Garages are the exception for most of the city.
