Also, the prevalence of alcohol culture is such a red herring. Outside of actual alcoholics, I’ve never seen anyone in DC walking down the sidewalk at 10am swigging from an open container, yet I’ve now seen dozens and dozens of people smoking a joint or vaping at that hour. “It’s not addictive.” Then why are people getting high at all hours every day? And most people are not drinking when driving either, yet hotboxed cars are everywhere, again, all day long.

+1

Thank you for pointing this out. The supposed argument that weed smokers try to make -- "But, but, but alcoholllll is legal!" is such nonsense.

If my neighbor is drinking in his home, I can't see, hear or smell it. It has zero effect on me inside my home. But if my neighbor is toking, especially frequently, it absolutely affects me. Same would be true with tobacco, frankly, though weed seems worse than tobacco for permeating everything.

No the smell s not harming you anymore than a neighbor cooking spicy food. Smells are to be expected in multi family housing. Deal with it.

I think you're the same person posting most, if not all, of the pro-weed "It's legal, deal with it" nonsense answers on this thread. You know, or you should know if the weed hasn't baked your brain to the point you cannot comprehend it, that smell is not the only issue and not the truly dangerous issue. As someone already posted, burning any substance creates particulate matter that is then breathed in. But enough explaining for you, because you only return to troll here with your supposed arguments in favor of smoking whenever, wherever. We're having an actual discussion; you're having a troll party.

Ok cool so when you promise to stop driving your car that smells bad, and also causes cancer let alone climate change then I will take you seriously. Otherwise you are just another hypocrite that wants to bash people who you don’t like.

Ever heard of EVs?

As if you know anything about all these anonymous posters.

This board is overwhelmingly liberal. And this area votes overwhelmingly Democratic. The push to legalize weed has come from Democrats, not Republicans. The PP is likely correct.

Republicans should not be proud of being pro-prohibition.

Republicans have been overly trusting of police for decades and now we have police who do not enforce marijuana laws.

Blame Republicans. As usual.

It smells like freedom from oppression.

It smells like "freedom" to trigger my asthma. Thanks, pothead.

It smells like skunk

I live in MD and it's everywhere now. My husband and I did a quick happy hour at a suburban bar in Maple Lawn, and 4 women walked past and stank up the whole place.
So skunky...

I also do t know what weed smells like. I also do t know what skunk smells like. I’ll need my husband to point out what weed smells like so I know.

You’ve never smelled skunk spray before….

Go to any garage in DC. That funky smell there is not from the cars

Er, my home state of Oklahoma (majorly Republican) voted to legalize weed. It’s not just Democrats.

Yeah even though there are more Dem politicians in favor, there are certainly a lot of voters on both sides who favor legalizing weed. Most of my republican relatives do, although a number of them would probably identify more as libertarian.

Anonymous wrote:Once cannabis is legalized at the federal level (like alcohol and tobacco), then it can (and will) be regulated like alcohol and tobacco. Until then, all of the unregulated public consumption will continue to occur.

Why can’t it be regulated at the state level? Alcohol is regulated at state level to a certain extent.

Actually, it’s regulated at both the federal and state level. The 21st Amendment re-legalized alcohol at the federal level, which allowed states and local governments to regulate it as they saw fit. Some counties (like Lynchburg, Tennessee), do not serve liquor by the drink. In Pennsylvania, you can only purchase beer by the case, in stores that only sell beer. Wine is sold with distilled spirits in a separate store. At the federal level, the BATF enforces federal alcohol tax laws. Cannabis is still listed as a Schedule I narcotic at the federal level, which is absurd, given the fact that it now has proven medicinal uses. All of the comments on this thread about the smell of cannabis everywhere in DC, and elsewhere are valid and useful. The Cannabis industry needs to get on board with the citizens to impose stricter regulations on public consumption, just like alcohol and tobacco.

Have you ever smelled a skunk? Exactly like that. It is so pervasive that if the dudes in the car next to you are smoking, your car smells like weed when you reach your destination.

A lie

Some of it smells a bit skunky, but not all weed smells exactly like a skunk, and it won't linger in your car until you get to your destination. Please stop exaggerating. You're just making yourself look whiny and dramatic and taking away from the REAL issue, which is how can we stop people from driving while high?

Have not read all the replies

My DC (teen) often complains about weed smoke often when we go out (such as Mall parking lot or walking around). I usually have a good sense of smell and can’t smell anything that bad or like weed used to smoke when I was young.

Has the smell changed now that they vape it and mix it with other stuff to disguise the smell?

I live in Canada so I'm used to the smell. I have no problem with weed and enjoy it on occasion, but it seems like everyone is high all the time. People seem rather zombie-like and it can be very frustrating trying to get anything accomplished. Even with my best friend, I have to tell her the same things over and over again because she can't remember anything.

Hated it. Luckily it never happens where we live now (Annapolis area).

Maryland democrats just supported, lobbied for, and their new D-governor said he is signing RECREATIONAL marijuana in MD.

Lucky you! The Annapolis police’ hands will soon be tied to do anything about it.

You voted for this, PP. You are a democrat, right? (like everyone in Annapolis, except a few USNA employees).

We went down to see the Cherry Blossoms and had lunch.

Everywhere reeked of marijuana stench.
