Maybe they need the witnesses because he is not able to speak English?
unless he speaks Navajo I’m sure they can find a translator

It can be difficult to find a translator for Mongolian. That comes up more often in Arlington than you would think.

Cops have an online translation service idiot.

By online I mean the can call them 24x7

And it can take them a few hours to find a Mongolian translator. It's best to schedule in advance with the language line for obscure languages. While you can call them 24x7, it can take time to find a qualified translator.

Lady what are you talking about? This happened over 3 days ago.

Why hasn’t the passenger spoken out? Are they still hospitalized?

Because car crashes are non-events to media and police in almost all cases. Why would the passenger speak out? Who would they speak to?

Internalize this: the outcome is going to be that the driver made a mistake and it was an “accident.” there will be no repercussions- maybe a speeding ticket.

Not when they burn down a local institution! Maybe you're not in Arlington but we're all still buzzing about this. It wasn't a random traffic accident.

I’m sorry to say that you’re going to be sorely disappointed. Nobody even died. The chances of serious charges or safety updates coming out of this are extremely low. If you really want change, check around to find the local community group working on Vision Zero.

4 people were critically injured. 17 sent to the hospital. Interesting how this and an entire establishment destroyed is brushed off but let the local incels hear a whisper about blm setting fire to a trash can.

The same thing happened in DC this past Spring. Except 2 women died. After the initial media reports everything disappeared and there has been no public update on the driver.

Why exactly do you need info on the driver?

Because crimes and public safety is public information. But you knew that.

But what specifically will you do with that info? Why exactly are you obsessing over it?

Are you new here? I’m not obsessing. I posted twice. You know you’re talking to multiple people, right?

Obsessed enough to fixate on an accident from back in the spring and possible lack of news on it.

DP. Maybe because out of the three massive vehicular accidents which crashed into buildings or crowds of people within the same 72 hour period - only one has had its driver shrouded in mystery.

We know who Ann is because they couldn’t hide a Hollywood actress driving into a house. The Latino guy was all over Fox News as soon as they figured out he was brown. But this one? Crickets.

Did the Arlington crash even make national news?

Who cares about the driver? It doesn’t affect you.

Another interesting query - why it didn’t. Why didn’t any reporters request security footage from any of the restaurants or businesses in such a heavily trafficked area?

No one died - certainly not six people. No celebrities.

A car crashed into building. People got hurt. There was a fire. Not national news level stuff here.

Cars crash every day. Wasn’t there a big crash in 50 for the fire chief trying to get to this accident?

A car crashed into an Arlington bar on one of the nicest weather weekends all summer. Many of us are thinking OMFG i could have been there. It’s a normal reaction to want to understand what caused this to happen.

Eating at a restaurant during a pandemic? No, most of DCUM wouldn't be anywhere near there.

The LA crash only made the news because of the spectacularly horrifying video footage.

I agree, it’s really bizarre. I suppose there could have been a medical emergency that could have caused an acceleration, or an issue with the vehicle or something. But the angle at which the crash occurred is strange and it must have been at a pretty high rate of speed.

I'm kind of flabbergasted you think it's bizarre. People drive recklessly and stupidly *every day* in the DMV. Areas like Courthouse are dense with pedestrians and retail, yet municipalities refuse time and time again to make them more safe. This kind of accident is 100% predictable, not bizarre. People crash into houses, light poles, other cars, bikes, children, every single day.

And no one died. What do we need to do? Add another traffic light to the traffic light?

No, traffic lights are to govern the right of way, not to necessarily fix dangerous conditions. Hopefully Arlington will figure out if Courthouse Road needs traffic calming (narrowing by removing a lane/adding a protected bikelane) and if the left turn there needs to be modified so people can make it more safely. Someone mentioned that they believe the lights are already timed on Courthouse Road so you can't get all greens and build up speed, but if not, that is something that could be done.

NP. I actually know 4 of the 5 people hospitalized personally and two other people who were in the bar. It is a popular happy hour spot for the company across the street. Have you actually BEEN to where this is? This is inexcusable and if it was reckless driving it WAS Anne Heche level recklessness and not just standard stuff. Four Courts is the top of a T intersection. There is no way beyond a willful swerve off Wilson or barrelling straight into it head on from N Courthouse that could result in this. They went full on INTO the restaurant.

This is not a confusing curve, it is a major intersection with multiple lights and crosswalks that is literally two blocks from the actual courthouse.

People drive crazy in the DMV, THIS was criminal or a medical emergency, or I guess maybe the driver getting attacked by their passenger. Not a result of bad traffic management.

I agree with you that the driver should be charged. But nobody cares. I cannot emphasize enough- there was nothing special about this even though you knew victims. He took the left turn too fast. Happens *all the time* and nobody cares even when people die. The solution is to make physical changes to slow down traffic and increase public transit use, and there is zero political will for that.

I can't believe some posters are actually arguing this is not a big deal. The care went all the way into the building and caught on fire. It is a big deal.

Don't let this fade away. We deserve to know what happened.

There was a crash in downtown Bethesda several months ago. A car went up onto the sidewalk on Bethesda Ave and pinned a pedestrian under the car. There were helicopters all over and it was reported on the early news -- 4:00 -- with helicopter footage over the crash. That was it. Not a single mention of it at 5, 6 or 11 o'clock news or ever again. Just like it hadn't happened. One of my kids walked by and saw it. I saw it on the 4 o'clock news so it did happen. Makes you wonder.

Yes, there is a big conspiracy to hide car accidents. Auto lobbyists pay off news orgs to downplay stories so people still keep buying cars.

Or, it’s not big news. Car gets into accident. People get hurt. The end.

NP here. I would want to know the cause and whether the driver is being charged. Same for the accident at the Parthenon in Chevy Chase DC a few months ago - that was front page Wash Post news when it happened, but no follow-up on whether the elderly driver still has his license after killing two people. I don't think it's weird or obsessive to want to know whether there were consequences for a car crash where people are killed or seriously injured.
Anonymous
I do think the public deserves to know the cause.

12,000,000 total vehicle accidents every year - car & truck.
6,000,000 car accidents every year.
38,000 people die from car accidents every year.
6,500 pedestrians die from car accidents every year.

Nobody even died in this one.
