Another interesting query - why it didn’t. Why didn’t any reporters request security footage from any of the restaurants or businesses in such a heavily trafficked area? |
Why on earth would this make national news? |
Eating at a restaurant during a pandemic? No, most of DCUM wouldn't be anywhere near there. |
NP. I actually know 4 of the 5 people hospitalized personally and two other people who were in the bar. It is a popular happy hour spot for the company across the street. Have you actually BEEN to where this is? This is inexcusable and if it was reckless driving it WAS Anne Heche level recklessness and not just standard stuff. Four Courts is the top of a T intersection. There is no way beyond a willful swerve off Wilson or barrelling straight into it head on from N Courthouse that could result in this. They went full on INTO the restaurant. This is not a confusing curve, it is a major intersection with multiple lights and crosswalks that is literally two blocks from the actual courthouse. People drive crazy in the DMV, THIS was criminal or a medical emergency, or I guess maybe the driver getting attacked by their passenger. Not a result of bad traffic management. |
| It made National and international news |
I agree with you that the driver should be charged. But nobody cares. I cannot emphasize enough- there was nothing special about this even though you knew victims. He took the left turn too fast. Happens *all the time* and nobody cares even when people die. The solution is to make physical changes to slow down traffic and increase public transit use, and there is zero political will for that. |
| Maybe foot or some other object got stuck on the gas pedal? |

I can't believe some posters are actually arguing this is not a big deal. The care went all the way into the building and caught on fire. It is a big deal.
Don't let this fade away. We deserve to know what happened. There was a crash in downtown Bethesda several months ago. A car went up onto the sidewalk on Bethesda Ave and pinned a pedestrian under the car. There were helicopters all over and it was reported on the early news -- 4:00 -- with helicopter footage over the crash. That was it. Not a single mention of it at 5, 6 or 11 o'clock news or ever again. Just like it hadn't happened. One of my kids walked by and saw it. I saw it on the 4 o'clock news so it did happen. Makes you wonder. |
Yes, there is a big conspiracy to hide car accidents. Auto lobbyists pay off news orgs to downplay stories so people still keep buying cars. Or, it’s not big news. Car gets into accident. People get hurt. The end. |
| NP here. I would want to know the cause and whether the driver is being charged. Same for the accident at the Parthenon in Chevy Chase DC a few months ago - that was front page Wash Post news when it happened, but no follow-up on whether the elderly driver still has his license after killing two people. I don't think it's weird or obsessive to want to know whether there were consequences for a car crash where people are killed or seriously injured. |
| I do think the public deserves to know the cause. |

12,000,000 total vehicle accidents every year - car & truck.
6,000,000 car accidents every year. 38,000 people die from car accidents every year. 6,500 pedestrians die from car accidents every year. Nobody even died in this one. |
