Books you "should" love, but just don't

I've learned the hard way that I won't like anything by John Irving, Philip Roth, or Tom Wolfe. They just aren't for me.

"The Last Thing He Told Me" was ok, but I can't understand why it's been on the best-seller list forever.

So then great, they turn it into a movie, figured I’ll cheat and finally find out what the darn story entailed. Tried twice to watch the movie and couldn’t get through it either. I’ll never ever know what that story was!!!! And I no longer care!!

Oh Wonder Boys is one of my favorite movies. It inspired me to try to read some Michael Chabon, but I couldn't get through either of the books I tried!

So relieved to see so many others confessing their undying dislike for literature that we're all supposed to be stimulated by, and love.

Huge support. It got Book of the Month Club and was a Reese Pick. That's what it takes now for most any book to work. It was definitely just okay to me, but was fast paced if you could suspend your disbelief.

Oh. That makes me sad. I have been so surprised at how much I enjoy Oprah’s list

I'm "determined" not "detention.

Absolutely loved this book. Cried for the last hour or so. It just had an effect on me.

The little Friend - Donna Tartt
I couldn’t finish it. It became apparent at some point that she wasn’t going to give an answer.

I'm the PP from both threads who loved this book. It was the "Willem" scene that utterly shocked me.

I really loved reading through the point of view of a dog. But I feel like the author got it all wrong. Dogs love being dogs. It bummed me out that this dog thought it would be important to be human.

I agree

Has anyone read History of Wolves? Many people love it and it was short listed for the Man Booker Prize, but I thought it was morally bankrupt - beautifully written, but just horrible.
