Do I really have to neuter our dog?!

If you have a dog that doesn’t display any of the unwanted behaviors (humping/roaming etc) and has a great personality and is calm and you are not worried about getting f dogs pregnant because you are confident in keeping them away from escaping etc. Why then would you neuter? I am not trying to argue but to understand? The fear is that neutering a well behaved dog could change his personality. I feel like that is getting lost. We are talking about looking at a dog as an individual and not as a group.

Neutering a well behaved dog will not change it into an ill behaved dog. There is absolutely no reason to make that claim. You aren't worried about accidents because it won't be you dealing with them, be honest about that. Do what you want, but don't ask for everyone to applaud your decision.

Exactly. And be prepared to be judged about NOT neutering your dog if you do take it out in public, because it will be obvious, it will be noticed and it's depicted as low class. Can't say if that's justified or not but that's going to be the perception of you and your dog.

It’s just such a gross thing. Like spitting in public. I don’t go in for the DCUM worship of “high class” people or anything, but have some self respect and be a decent person.

What's gross is that you are constantly checking to see if dogs have their balls or not.

Umm . . doesn't take much work/effort to see the balls hanging out the back!

So when you're walking down a sidewalk and you pass someone with a dog, do you then turn around and see if that dog has balls? Or if you're walking your dog and our dogs say hi, do you take the time to check and see if my dog has balls and then walk away in disgust when you see that he does?

It isn't necessarily random people's dogs having accidental litters-the shelters will continue to be crowded and dogs abused and in poor health because people breed for quick cash.

Be responsible but there are indeed responsible owners who manage intact dogs. Unless someone is a BYB or having accidental litters, MYOB. This applies in particular to attacking and shaming people with large-breed puppies.

I just thought of this thread because I was watching a stand up show from a Russian comic talking about how bad his dog smells because of the ejaculate from the penis. He thought it was an infection and took it to the vet who told him that’s just how it smells. Never having had an unfixed dog, I have no idea, but it made me think of OP of this thread! I guess in Russia, it’s common not to neuter.
