So, I'm going with some friends to a show at the Black Cat on a weeknight. We were hoping to take the metro but I'm not that familiar with the neighborhood.
Is it a relatively safe walk from the Black Cat (14th & U) to the U Street/Cardozo metro around 11ish? It's about 3 or 4 blocks. |
Yes, it's fine. |
... at least, in my opinion!! |
You wouldn't happen to be a Navy Seal just back from assignment? Just trying to gauge your tolerance for danger. ![]() |
I'd also call it fine, but I should admit that I'm rarely out that late. I'm aware of occasional problems, but you'll be on main streets with plenty of other people around. Just use basic urban street smarts and you should be fine. |
Yes, it is fine. Very busy. |
No problem. |
Thanks!
A follow on question.... Any restaurant recs in the area besides the Chili Bowl (I'm not a fan)? |
Cafe Saint-Ex. Whenever we go to a show at the Black Cat, that's where we get a bite to eat. We like to get a table downstairs. |
We recently ate at Rice (Thai) and it was wonderful. |
Places to eat:
DC Noodles Bistro La Bonne Policy Masa 14 And it's fine to walk. Very busy. What year do you think this is, 1993? |
"And it's fine to walk. Very busy. What year do you think this is, 1993?"
Well, there are still muggings and assaults that go on in the area. I would totally walk, but I'd also be alert and street smart. |
Thanks for the recs! No, I don't think it's 1993. I just have no point of reference for the area and don't get out as much post kids. There are some shady areas around Georgia ave that I don't even like driving through. I figured it was fine but just wanted to be sure I wasn't doing something stupid. ![]() Based on the restaurants alone it seems to be a fun and hip area! Very excited about our big night out. |
Yes, and Bar Pilar. |
Didn't a guy just recently get jumped by a group of teenagers somewhere near the metro near U St?? |
