Expectant and Postpartum Moms
| I'm curious to try it just to see what it tastes like. DH thinks I'm nuts. Have you tried it and if so, what's it like? |
|
yep. it's sweet. best I can describe it is tasting like vanilla ice cream.
I also tasted breast milk gone bad. worse than sour cow's milk. |
| Sure. You don't have to drink a cup. It would be weird NOT to taste it. It's very very sweet. |
| sweet water |
OP here - just tried it. Wow. It's truly is like sweet water. Thanks for the encouragement. DH thinks I'm crazy.

Your husband does realize that breastmilk isn't human waste or blood, right? It's food! |
| Yes, I've definitely tried it. Very sweet. I took a tiny taste of freshly pumped milk so I could tell the difference between good and bad in case I was ever concerned about my refrigerator or freezer stash (montgomery county -- where the power is less than reliable!) |
| my three-year-old calls it "Mommy Chocolate Milk" |
| Yes, and I don't care for it. I have had to taste it a lot as I was an exclusive pumper and my milk had excess lipase. Now that's some gross stuff! |
| Yes, to make sure it was okay. It's sweet. Also tasted a dab of my son's oatmeal cereal mixed with bmilk: no wonder he loves it. |
| why would trying breast milk be a big deal? If you're feeding to your baby, it's suitable for your consumption, right?! Not sure why it would be a "true confessions" topic on this forum. |
Lipase is an enzyme helping with the digestion of fats... I never thought it would have a taste... How did you find out that you had too much of it??? |
|
Sure. i mean, I was sprayed in the face with it (imagine those physics) so figured i'd taste it while it was there. I can't imagine chugging a cup, but a small taste seems rather normal to me.
sweet for sure. |
| Yes, a lot of times, I took a sip to make sure it wasn't spoiled before I gave it to LO. I didn't make cheese out of it or anything. |
Not the PP but it makes the milk smell bad, I had excess in mine too. Found out when I started using some of my freezer stash and it smelled bad, it tasted off too. But it is not bad it's just the extra lipase. I then had to scald the milk prior to freezing to stop ordain happening. Talk about a pain in the ass! I always try to tell people now if you are stock piling milk make sure you thaw some out every once in a while to make sure it still smells good. The baby can still drink it but some won't because it tastes different. I was hystericl when I first figured it out thinking I was going to have to throw out my whole freezer stash. |
