Expectant and Postpartum Moms
| Looks like I am the only one so far that has not tasted it. |
Join the club. Never tasted it, never wanted to. Actually, makes me want to puke just thinking about tasting it (but I am pregnant right now, so many things make me want to puke). |
?? You feed it to your baby, for heaven's sake. Why would that make you want to puke? |
|
Of course I've tasted my milk.
I think I have excess lipase, as milk that previously frozen or over a couple days in the fridge smells different. Not sour, I've smelled that as well. My baby, through, drank it fine so I thankfully didn't have to throw my stash out. |
| Both my husband and I have. As well as our kids... |
This is what happens to mine, and then DC won't drink. PLEASE explain to me what you did and if it made the milk then taste and smell different after freezing. Would love to do this, but don't know how. |
You just need to scald the milk so it gets up to about 140 degrees for I think about 5 seconds? I don't remember exactly; google, you'll be able to find info on it. The way I would do it is by just putting it in a bottle warmer and add extra water; then I would put a meat thermometer in the bottle of milk so I could monitor the temperature. |
| I remember a couple of times when I pumped that my milk would have a soapy smell/taste (not right away, but after it had been in the fridge). Anybody else experience this? |
| Yes, I tasted a few drops. It didn't taste like much of anything. Vaguely sweet. |
I'm the original lipase-y poster and sounds like you also have this issue. Mine smells and tastes soapy. Some people say theirs tastes metallic. As another poster said, you can scald your milk before you freeze it. However, if you work, this isn't practical for a lot of people. I wasn't able to scald so I just kept offering it to my baby and eventually he drank it with no problem. |
