I went to the LAMB open house 2 years ago for my oldest and loved it - but did not get in. I put my younger child into the lottery without going to the open house and we just received notification that we got in .....and now I have a bunch of questions.
Does anyone know the answers to the following questions - 1. What will be school hours? 2. Will they have before and aftercare? What would be the hours for these? What is the cost? Thanks - I am sure I will come up with more questions and hoping the greater DCUM community can help. |

School Hours LAMB school hours are 8:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. for primary students; and 8:15 a.m. - 3:15 p.m. for elementary students. All students attend school Monday through Friday. https://www.lambpcs.org/enrichment.html Before and After Care INNIS, a certified daycare provider, offers before and after care at the school for those parents who need an extended day schedule. Before care runs from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m., and after care runs from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Contact INNIS directly to apply for extended care and to obtain cost. | sorry I was unclear - I was wondering about info for the new campus. |
that number is not in service - any other recommendations? |
| There was very little info about the new location given at the open house I attended. It was still not a done deal at the time. |
thanks - it makes it hard to sign a letter of intent without more info. i will probably just sign and when i get more info make a decision - but i wanted to be fair to other families. |
| As for location, I was informed by the school this morning that the temporary new school will be at the Michigan Park Christian Church around 4200 South Dakota Ave NE (the actual address is on Taylor Street). I believe this location has been used temporarily by other charter schools. The school year starts August 29. |

Just some food for - At the open house this year, the administration discussed the early years of LAMB. They told stories of how the school would receive notice Friday afternoon that they had to relocate by the following Monday, and how parents would pitch in over the weekend to make this happen. Apparently this scenario would happen frequently during the first few years, and this contributed to the strong community that was built between teachers, administrators, and families. I certainly understand that parents need to consider a school's location, in addition other factors, when picking a school for their child. But to me, it seemed like LAMB really wanted families who are committed to their educational philosophy long-term, and can weather inconveniences like building location, etc.
I know the OP's questions were related to hours and aftercare, which are definitely two 'make or break it' factors, but just thought I'd add this info to any families who are on the fence. |

True, to a degree. I don't expect that the new school will have to relocate at a moments notice, but the whole operation will eventually be housed in Walter Reed.
I live near the new location and when I thought we had a hope of getting in, before the lottery, I drove by. It's a nice facility with it's own enterance separate from the large church it's housed in. Your kids will do well there, I bet. Best of luck. |
| I agree. However, it's very difficult to get to that part of the city early in the morning. Especially if you live and work West of the park. I'm not sure how we coudl make this work for our family. This is something I'm really pondering as we make our decision about LAMB. |
| Parents at YY have organized van service for groups of kids. It's a private service that they pay for directly to the provider. Such a group might be organized to go from west of park to LAMB location. I think it takes ~10 kids to be cost effective, then costs ~$200 per month. |
given that the expansion campus only has 60 kids, I would guess that less than 10 of them would be from West of the Park. But we are - so if the other family wants to talk - we would be interested. |
Not sure about that. Lamb attracts lots of applicants from your area. |

Try driving it during rush hour both ways before you make your choice. It is very hard to get over to that side of town in the morning, speaking from experience.
