Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS)
It's important to know history. |
| I assume it wasn’t lost on the Reston interviewer that the little areas carved out of each of Herndon, Reston, and Vienna to attend Langley are expensive neighborhoods of single-family homes. That’s not a coincidence, and deserves a fresh look - just like they should be considering moving part of Great Falls back to closer Herndon now that HHS has capacity again. |
And the School Board approved those carve outs. |
Seriously. There is also the “this has been in the works for years, you voted for this school board, you should have seen this coming, get over yourself, we are doing this” drum beat. So which is it? Ignore years past or this has been years in the making? |

I, for one, am ticked off about this. My neighborhood --in fact any neighborhood--is at risk, just because you resent Langley.
I have been reading about this for years from way on the other side of Herndon. I know I don't want my neighborhood moved out of our community school, but once the carving starts on the map--designed by a group that knows nothing about the neighborhoods and community attachments, most people will be unhappy. And, if you get to stay in your current school? It won't be the same. All because some people don't like the color of Langley. And, by the way, that "lily white" school had a group that commemorated October 7 with red and green. Somehow, I don't think those kids are "lily white." |

https://www.ffxnow.com/20...y-schools/ Seema Dixit and Rachna Sizemore Heizer attempt to hold emergency rezoning of critically overcrowded schools hostage to justify comprehensive review. If FCPS followed the boundary recommendations in the CIP, how “necessary” is comprehensive review? Seema Dixit and Rachna Sizemore Heizer just showed their true colors. If your neighborhood is subject to rezoning and either Seema Dixit and Rachna Sizemore Heizer are your rep, do NOT count on them sticking up for you. |

NP, I am also a Herndon parent. I don’t assume GF/Langley parents are racist. However, I feel that Herndon being “poorer”, many of the Langley parents are afraid their kids might learn some “bad ways” of their new peers if they are re-zoned.
We are not a wealthy family. Our home value is about average for Herndon, and we are URMs and immigrants. However, I must say my children’s friends are all focused on school, athletics, and other ECs. They are polite and ambitious. My kids have also played club sports with some kids zoned for Langley, and we all got along with their families. Herndon is not as bad as many think it is. Statistics only tell part of what the school really is like. Most teachers are good. The athletic trainer is amazing as well. |
I guess Rachna is At Large now, so who knows what she will do. Neither school is in Seema's district-though Coates kids do go to Westfield which is in Seema's district. |
Hot mess but what else could we expect from these people. |
I believe you. But, I don't think they are "fearful," I think they don't like being used as pawns. It's the School Board that is fearful. For years, this has been a topic. Most people like where they are. I'm not a Langley parent and never aspired to be one--but, I understand not wanting to be moved. I've been through more than one boundary study. It is not fun to live in uncertainty. And, believe me, once this is completed, there will be additional uncertainty. I find it hard to believe that a successful county wide boundary study can be done. Way too many variables: transportation, programs, communities, feeders, etc. Not to mention the additional goal of balancing FARMS. |

Seema Dixit’s motivation here is a bit odd.
If the “need” for comprehensive boundary is justified by Parklawn and Coates, and if your school is nowhere near these school's boundary but is nevertheless swept up in the “comprehensive” changes of the upcoming proposals, even though boundary review was never proposed for your school in the CIP, you can thank Seems Dixit. |
I'm not sure if Floris is in Sully District--it may be on the border of Sully and Hunter Mill. However, there are quite a few Floris kids who live in Sully. It's really hard for me to find supervisory district maps that are readable. I need roads and streets to figure it out. |
They’ll come around when their kids get sent to a worse school and their property values drop lol |
I’m a GF parent whose kids will likely be unaffected (at least directly) by any boundary changes. I’m really happy that you like Herndon (even if for certain families in the HHS pyramid, the good will is not reciprocal). It sounds like you chose your house based in part on the great community. Putting school caliber aside, however one defines it, families chose their pyramids and do not want their kids to be pawns of the school board. This is massive unnecessary disruption. It will only hurt students, some more than others. |
“Not to mention the additional goal of balancing FARMS.” Where are you getting this information? Is it posted somewhere? Did someone say it in a meeting? Just collecting receipts. |
