I have a 7 year old daughter and up to now we really don't watch much TV. I was thinking it might be kind of nice to start watching a show together as a family. When I was growing up my family watched Family Ties and the Cosby Show. There really don't seem to be sitcoms around anymore. What are some shows that you enjoy watching with your kids? |
Actually, there are sitcoms around - most network sitcoms are not particularly appropriate for a 7 year old these days. I'd say Phineas and Ferb (don't laugh - it's funny and a touching family). Don't know anything about ABC Family, but they do have family sitcoms. Also, I think Family Ties and maybe Cosby Show are available on Netflix streaming. |
Saw this for the first time a while ago. The show itself wasn't awful...but Holy Crap, the commercials! Is this stuff available on Netflix streaming, or elsewhere that I don't have to open my child's skull and let the evil corporate scum-suckers rummage around in her brain? |
Iron Chef, Cupcake wars, Wipeout, Survivor, American Idol |
iCarly. Love it. |
Love Phineas and Ferb for that age, and I would also second 9:38's suggestions. Iron Chef and other cooking contest shows are favorites at our house. My kids also love Alton Brown's Good Eats. Oh, and Mythbusters!
I watch iCarly with my 11-year-old, and it is funny, but I don't know that I would let a 7-year-old watch it. |
Mythbusters. My 7 year-old loves it and learns a lot but we avoid some of the violent themed shows about guns and explosions. Also Planet Earth on the Discovery channel is amazing! |
another vote for mythbusters. and the dog whisperer. |
Phineas and Ferb, House Hunters, American Idol, Hole in the Wall. |
Honestly, a lot of war movies, because that's how I learned a lot about geography/politics/world history as a child. |
I know someone who watches 16 and Pregnant with their 7 year old... |
|
We watch The Middle. It is very funny and family friendly.
Phineas and Ferb are available on Netflix streaming. We also like Chowder, but it is weird. Ditto to ICarly, but maybe not a 7 year old. I would look around for one or two shows you are interested in yourself, and watch them together. maybe cooking shows or House Hunters International. |
What is the average IQ of the typical "American Idol" viewer? |
Glee and Idol |
