S/O Poll: if you had it to do over again, would you get the same degree(s)?

Go to the same school? If not, what would you do differently?

I'd get the same BA (Sociology) and I'd still get an MPA (same schools) but would probably get a law degree as well if I had it to do over.

When I was younger, my (non-lawyer) dad used to talk all the time about how boring the law was and how he couldn't understand why anyone would ever want to go to law school. As a result, I really never even considered it.

I'd go to the same schools and get the same degrees. I have a MA in Cultural Anthropology and love my job!!

Totally different. I would try to come in under affirmative action scholarships and get a free ride to plumbing school while doing an apprenticeship.

No way!! I'm an elementary school teacher...went to UMD and the school was fine. Got my masters in reading/literacy. But, I would never become a teacher again. It is so much work, and the testing has completely taken over the profession. It really is a bummer...I LOVE teaching. I HATE test prep. They are not the same. The stress is just not worth it. I'm not sure what I would do instead...maybe just early childhood development so I could teach pre-school where the kids aren't tested (at least not yet!). I am weighing my options now as far as getting out of the classroom. Such a shame.

If I could do it over, I might get a marketing degree instead of communications. I ended up with a MS in marketing, but the '91 job market might have been a bit easier with a business degree.

Yep! I have a BS and PhD. I may have chosen a different grad school if I had been single, but went where I did b/c my DH and I were starting PhD programs at the same time so we went to a school where we both were offered full assistant ships (I had other offers, he didn't). All has worked out well, though.

I would have gone for a PhD in marine biology. Assuming I could split time between being out on the ocean and lab work. My husband wishes he had done archaeology.

I would get the same degrees - history - but I would take some economics and statistics courses as well.

No - I would have made a better choice and probably gone in to nursing/healthcare.

I think I would have never started my MA in history of medicine and just focused on computer science in order to have made more of the tech bubble. I really can't complain though, life is good.

I do wonder what life would have been like had I gone into the military after high school. They were going to send me into the medic corp.

I have an MD, but I would have done a joint MPH-MD. Its really hard to have the time now to go back and do an MPH...

I'm a special ed teacher. I love the kids and families I work with, but would rather do something with more 1:1 work, and more family work. Perhaps a Developmental Pediatrician, Child Psychologist, or Social Worker?

I'm pretty happy where I am though.

I would not have gone to law school. Didn't mind school so much but did not care for the profession.
