S/O Poll: if you had it to do over again, would you get the same degree(s)?

Probably would've done business in undergrad, but that wouldn't have changed my career path.

Still glad I didn't spend the money on a masters. My colleagues were older than me, in debt, had a masters and I was still at/above their level in the company.

I would probably have gone to a different school for undergrad. I went to GW because they gave me a scholarship and I didn't really fit in there. I did make some good friends, though, and it got me to DC, which is good. I'm happy with the degree I got. (BS in Econ.)

I haven't used my MBA (Finance) much since I got it from UMD, but I don't think I would have done anything differently. Good education, met some nice people, and the extra letters on my resume haven't hurt me. I might have tried to go to a top-tier business school, but really didn't want to commit to full-time or move out of the area. So I don't really regret the way things turned out.

Noooo!! Got an undergrad marketing degree. Complete waste of time for me. I'm not the marketing/sales type!! Wish I had studied Occupational Therapy or other health related degree. Think I would have enjoyed therapy with the elderly.

I am an MD, and did pre med (bio). I should have considered dentistry, but I definitely should have done a bachelors in engineering then gone on to either medicine or dentistry. That way I would have had a good back up income if things did not go well in medicine (which can easily happen). More MDs need alternative degrees. While in college, you may as well do either engineering, accounting, nursing, or one of the degrees that you can get a job with. You can still go to medicine as long as you have the core requirements.

9:47 - I feel the same way about GW!

But the rest of the thread, there is no way to know unless you have a crystal ball. I suppose my choice of GW is much the same. So there really is no point.

I would have gone to a state school instead of a prestigious undergrad private. I'm still paying off that BA!

I earned BA in Government and History with a focus on Asian Studies from University of Texas. Went on to earn a MS in Internation Relations from Troy.
I did what I could with the options and $ I had at the time. But somedays I wish I had a JD (not to be a lawyer, just always interested in law), and other days I wish I was a pediatrician. And then there's the dream I have of opening up my own business, and wish I had taken some other courses.
Oh well. Hindsight isn't 20/20, its 50/50, because you will never know what would of happened if you chose a different path.

Yes, same degree, but hopefully a better school

Part of me says I wouldn't have even gone to undergrad. These days it is no more significant than finishing HS. I definitely wouldn't have gone to an expensive private school.

Masters in social work from a fine (but not prestigious) school (always seemed silly to me to pay $$$ for a degree in SW from a really expensive school.) Yes, I would do it the same way.

Yes and yes for both.

I would have probably picked Accounting bc it is a defined career choice.

For schools, I would have went out of state.

liked my degree, liked the school, but I would have double majored in a modern language and studied abroad as a student rather than just working abroad after graduation.

Or have ditched all that and gone into zoology. Toss up!

IF I could do it all again, I would be a dentist. They make an insane amount of money for very little work.

Of course the work itself wouldn't be great, but the second home, yacht etc. plus the time to enjoy it would make up for it.

Would not have got BS and MS in nursing, but rather some other field that is easy to get back into after taking time off for kids. Not sure what that is yet, but it is way too much more work to get back to the level I was at before kids. I may change careers.

I find this interesting. I thought it was relatively easy to get back into nursing once you have the degrees. What level were you at? Why is it so hard to get back into it? Just curious.
