Yes but what you fail to realize is people running soccer clubs are not smart business people. My club just ordered new uniform this year. $500 for the full set. When age groups change next year that means number 13 from the 2010 team or 2011 would have to either A give up their number and buy new uniforms or both wear number 13. Not arguing that it would have been a better idea of clubs to not get new uniforms this year. |
Somebody has a July kid… well it’s BY for this upcoming season, but I doubt there has been a definitive decision on 2026-27. Hard to imagine they would want to reduce their potential player pool in half and let EcNL corner the market on SY for recruiting purposes. Since you have it confirmed though, did they say why they are staying BY in 2026-27? |

Here we go! Conflict info people. Who’s guessing who’s for real? Unless GA merges with NWSL and creates a pro pathway they have nothing to gain by staying BY because they are a college soccer platform. |
Are they? Unless? |
| Even still what’s the major benefit of staying BY for a “pro” pathway which is not the ultimate goal for many GA or Mlsn players. More players turn down academy offers than accept them bc of relocation and they just want to play at a high enough level and do other things with their lives. Ga/Mlsn lose potential players with a different cutoff and will be sifting through B team u12 players once the landscape changes and SY kids move on to ECNL, or whatever the next SY league that replaces ECNL |
In the long term maybe in the short term you can argue that BY means they will just collect as many players as they would lose if not more because there are currently more Jan to July kids playing than there are Aug to Dec. So if they stay BY and lose all of the Aug to Dec kids maybe 3-5 a team they will get maybe 8-15 players Jan to July looking to keep their age advantage or have lost ECNL spots to the new cutoffs. |
I agree. But regardless of MLSN being a pro path way they get more college scouts at their events and more high quality players competing which is what attracts the coaches. The goal is to get the best players to play in your league. |
Do you mind disclosing a little bit more about your "GA league meeting" ? The GA annual general meeting was a week ago. So was your meeting yesterday , the last day of the playoffs, an official one with GA people ? Not trying to split hair, but youth soccer clubs are usually non profits with no "owners" , I guess you meant club top management ? |
| Everyone agrees GA (and all other leagues) is staying BY next year. The year after (26/27) and beyond it will be school year with a 8/1 to 7/31 range. It is what it is. It will suck for about 5 weeks and then everyone will adjust and move on. |
I wouldn’t take the PP seriously. In fairness though, I think the directive from GA/MLSN has been to give a sense they are staying BY to give their current players hope that nothing will change. I think their clubs’ officials are going along with it too, even though they see the forest. Doubt they will disclose something official until knee deep in the Fall season. |
LOL, which meeting was that? It is all good. Your daughter being the youngest will be fine. It will build character! |
We used to be FCV. Only smart thing I think the club did - if you are born in odd year, required to have odd number. Even year, even number. You could play up with no duplicates. Also only worked bc two teams per age group. |
This is correct. GA literally announced it in the room at the AGM and anyone that was there can confirm. The PP just thinks it is funny to go over the top to counter for some reason, most likely him/her just being an asshat. The change willl be easy for most but very hard for some so we should recognize that there are parents who have a significant vested interest in the outcome. |
