Well, you never know. Some people might want square footage, even in a big box that was built as cheaply as possible. And let’s face it, the schools are fine, but they’re not in one of the pyramids that people are fighting to get into. So maybe there will be a slew of people bidding up the price of a house with a large, ugly, lower quality addition in a middling school pyramid. It could happen. But I certainly wouldn’t count on it. |
The race card was never brought up until Mike did it in his TV interview. He made a comment about in his culture they don’t put parents in nursing homes. There are lots of types of families and cultures that don’t put families in nursing homes .Mike’s not alone in that, but he brought the topic up into this whole mess. |
All 7 and 8 out 10 rated schools are pretty desirable... Our neighborhood has all 5s and barely anyone uses public schools. They used to be 3s. |
Read the posts here and on reddit again. Or look at the comment sections after the articles. Or read the submitted complaints. The ethnicity of the family is absolutely an issue for some people. |
I have no idea where you live, but in Fairfax County, Chantilly is considered a middling school pyramid. It’s fine, but no one is making sacrifices to get their kids in there. If anything, there are lots of complaints about how crowded the HS is, so a lot of buyers are going to steer toward more desirable Fairfax County school pyramids. |
Can you quote specific examples? I haven’t seen anything racist posted, but if that’s true, the people posting things like that are obviously wrong in those sentiments. Most of the objections I’ve read would be the same no matter what the background of the builder was. |
I don't believe anything. It needs to be proven that this design is compatible with the space. So far, we have a set of drawings that show it can't be done. Random speculation that it could fit based on "It's just 6 inches!" is just that; speculation. |
Weird trolling. |

There are a bunch in the NOVA sub. |
You won't find any racist posts in there. What's the plan to find some? Post them yourself? |
Come on. Don't pretend there haven't been a large number of comment with racist undertones, some more explicit than others. Most, if not all, of the comments about this as an "apartment" are anti-immigrant dog whistles. A small set of examples: -- The addition is to permit his parents to live with the family? Total BS! He is building a three-story rental housing unit. There will be 12 "families" living there with all the accompanying vehicles, noise, trash, and kids. Home values will be destroyed due to that one property. Fairfax County will do nothing out of fear of being labeled anti-immigrant. Importation of a third world standard of living to Northern Virginia. -- They will have one family living in one room and each room will have two or three cars. The whole street will be occupied by cars from that house. -- Lmao this is probably gonna host multiple ethnic families. Gonna be lots of cars parked outside -- “He said that in Asian cultures, parents live with their grown children.“ This isn’t Asia. And that is an absolute eyesore. -- homeowner makes sure he pulls in the race issues, “Asian family care for grandparents.”…..Nah, this is for siblings, aunties, uncles, and about 87 other relatives. Note the pictures closely…..no garage…parking is gonna be a problem. We actually looked at relocating to the Greenbrier neighborhood (from NC) in order to be closer to our grandchildren. No way now. Home values are going to plummet. -- Dude is going to rent apartments to immigrant families. We had an issue like this in my neighborhood. Bloke bought a 7,000 sqft house and installed three kitchens, one on each floor. Real estate agents say they see it all the time. Tenants kids get to attend the rich kid schools, and the land lord gets unreported income. -- Three generations? In some countries, you just pay whoever regulates these issues a little bribe and the addition is allowed. Wonder if this family is used to that arrangement. There is monstrosity of a "house" near me that was built by an Indian family. -- It's vietnamese build. They are building a lot of this adu in california. -- Does it have a KARAOKE room? -- It looks like the home is adding a multi-family apartment complex as an “addition” to the house. We have concerns about: 1) Do they have the proper permits for a three story structure in a community with 1-2 story homes. 2) How will parking be accommodated when the driveway is not even sufficient for a single family home. The addition is a multi-family unit and it will stress the available street parking. A multi-family unit should not be possible in a community of single family homes. 3) I was unable to locate an approved permit online for the large addition and am concerned as we do not have an HOA in the Greenbriar community. --- Another Asian bringing down the neighborhood. -- Are they trying to house their existing immigrant village. The existing house already housed 2 generations. You don't need that much more room for an addition for a third generation. A tasteful addition could have been built but the owners went cheap to get maximum square feet. Many immigrants come from countries with zero zoning. The impact on the houses on either side is horrible. It blocks their light and makes their back yards tough to use. |

I like in a part of FFX County where the schools are rated 3, 4, and 5 out of 10. Chantilly is the 9th best high school in the district out of 30 and the 15th best in the entire state. Chantilly is much more economically accessible than many of the other pyramids like Langley, McLean, and Oakton. Sorry 9th best in the state is "middling" to you. |
Nobody is willing to live in a substandard, albeit big, house just send their kids to Chantilly. A buyer willing to live in that house will expect a bargain. |
