My boss, who is also a good friend, is going to have hysterectomy. I want to send something to let her know that I am thinking of her....Should I send her flowers or a basket of fruits? I don't know anyone who has gone through such a very emotional medical process, so I don't know what to send....Any suggestions?
I vote for fruit, or some other food. Flowers always make me think of funerals.
Fruit, especially if this is a quick hospital stay/outpatient surgery.

I would go with flowers. You really don't know how she will be feeling after having the surgery, and how long it will be before her appetite returns.
I have known a few (3) women who have had this surgery done. All were in their early 40s, two were done having children, and the third was always hoping there would be a chance for a second child. Especially sad since she had her first child right out of High School, and divorced when her son was only two. She never remarried, and wasn't the type to have children outside of marriage. She actually did really well with it, considering. She was having such painful menstrual cycles, and had cysts and fibroids, that their probably wasn't much of a chance she would have another child. Besides, she wasn't married, or in a relationship that was going to end up in marriage. The two other women that I knew, seemed to be alright with it. They were sisters, who had lost their mom to uterine cancer. One had a precancerous growth, and the other just had the fear of cancer. Since they were both finished having children, it wasn't that heartbreaking for them. I think though that since their mom had gone through it, and they saw, from her example, that it isn't the individual pieces that make us women. |
Allergy sufferer here, voting for fruit!
OP here..thanks for your suggestions. Flowers or fruits....either way, what store would you call/browse, 1-800 Flowers? or your local floral or Wegman?
Actually, I'd do neither and instead make a homemade meal to take to her to have while recovering.
PP here, my post sounds needlessly snarky.....flowers or fruit are nice but a good meal could be really helpful....
if you do Edible Arrangements, they're like fruit-flowers
Edible Arrangement...just checked out the website....they look cool, but it looks whoever receives the arrangement has to eat everything on the day since all fruits are cut and skins are removed.....Is that practical?
We love Edible Arrangements. We just refrigerated it and it was fine for a few days.
actually, that's a good idea. that way, she doesn't have to stand in the kitchen peeling off the skins!
The one we received was on skewers.I just removed the fruit from the arrangement and the skewer, put into a ziplock then stuck in the fridge. If I remember correctly, the one we were given no peeling was involved.
Cherry Moon Farms is who I used to use when I was managing my division's "Sunshine Fund" They have organic options and also do snacky stuff in addition to fruit.
You could also do fruit or some other treat from Harry and David. I love their stuff, and their packaging is so pretty.
