What tv shows does your 6/7 yr old watch?

We got rid of cable long ago and I am not planning on getting back anytime soon but my child is feeling a little left out of the tv show and character discussions so I was going to starting downloading shows for her to watch on occassion. What shows are popular with kids this age? She mentioned Spongebob and iCarly. Any others?

My just-tuned-7 yo DD likes Dino Dan, iCarly, Spongebob (but I don't let her watch it) and Zach & Cody.

Dog-The Bounty Hunter, they love it

DD watches anything she wants until bedtime.

I don't let my 6 year old watch Sponge Bob, even though he loves it. A little too crass for my taste/6 year old. DS loves How It's Made on the Science Channel. My nephews are a year or two older and love Mythbusters on Discovery. DS loves it, too, although some of it is a little much for him.

Design Squad on PBS Kids - he's a fanatic. Phineas and Ferb. Wild Kratts. Arthur. Family Game Night. Mythbusters (special treat because it's an hour). Fetch with Ruff Ruffman.

I don't allow the IRL "popular shows" that are on Disney - like ICarly etc. I feel that they can be too mean/not the right messages for this age, and he's not quite to the age that he can discern the nuances of social behavior - especially among girls. He's never been into Spongebob (so far). I love Phineas and Ferb - good messages, good characters, great story lines.

Also Phineas and Ferb is hilarious, so you can watch it with him!

Great! thanks for the suggestions!

Dog the Bounty Hunter is out though - his and his wife's over dyed processed locks gross me out.

My 6yo son loves Survivor. He doesn't care about the drama, but he loves the games/competitions they have every episode. He also likes Dancing with Stars and he and his 3 yo brother jam to the music.

On PBS, he likes Word Girl, Wild Kratts Curious George and Electric Company.

We don't have cable either.

I don't allow my 6.5 yo to watch iCarly or any of the other live action Nick shows. They push tween-ness and vapid consumerism on little kids.

I hate Spongebob, but let my kid watch it. We also like Electric Company, Dino Dan, and Phinneas and Ferb.

Phineas and Ferb, the Nature Channel (she loves stories about animals), Johnny Test

I don't think you can go wrong with any of the shows on PBS. My kids love Arthur, Curious George, Wild Kratts and the Electric Company. Plus you can also play the games online (you probably can with the other shows too, but ours are only allowed to watch Sponge Bob and Phinneus and Ferb on occassion. They seem to get snarky after watching those shows. How Its Made and other science shows are also big hits.

Well, I don't care that you don't let your child watch iCarly but let them watch Spongebob. You don't need to start a whole debate over it. The OP asked, I answered. I don't need you giving me your oh-so-fabulous reasons why you think my choices are wrong. Perhaps in a few months when your DD is the same age as mine, your choices of tv shows will have changed. Three months ago my DD was happy watching Little Bill. But no longer.

Highly recommend getting The Muppet Show on DVD. It's more sophisticated than Sesame Street, and I have to say, watching it as an adult amazes me. That show was so darn smart and funny! There is humor there for any age. I'm not sure how many seasons of it are out now, but at least the first two. It has aged very well.

Scooby Doo is the big one at our house. When I was kid it was mu all time favorite show so I end up enjoying watching it too.
