Washingtonian Magazine: Great High Schools

Anonymous
Do you love your child's high school? Would you like other parents to know how great it is?

For our October issue, the Washingtonian is putting together a cover story on great high schools in our area. We're looking to feature schools that excel in a number of areas, and help parents find the best fit for their child.

Please take a few minutes to fill out this questionnaire and tell us about your child's experience at his or her school. You can access the survey here: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/washingtonianparents. The deadline for the survey is Friday, May 20.

We encourage you to pass this along to any fellow high school parents. We won't publish your surveys as you submit them, or share your answers with the school. Most questions are optional, but please answer as many as you can.

If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact researcher Mollie Reilly at mreilly@washingtonian.com.

This is so fixed every year jsut like the top doctors and top restaraunts etc, all the top doctors and restaruants are also their biggest customers in terms of advertising....

So the top schools for the evirginia issue Thomas Jefferson, Washigton & Lee, Yorktown and Langley

Maryland issue Whitman, B-CC, WJ Richard Montgomery and Blair

No need to buy the issue folks, look at the issue from 1982 it hasn't changed much except TJ didn't open until the early 90s so it wasn't ranked

MCPS and FCPS are advertising in Washingtonian? I've never noticed that. What do they pitch?

Very true. It's just a pre-determined scam to sell more copies of Washingtonian to its upscale target audience by telling them that their local schools are great. Just like one can predictably expect to see "The Best of Bethesda" and "The Best of Great Falls" every friggin year.

I used to actually believe the rankings of the Washingtonian. But after living here for 12 years and having lots of experience with different health care providers, schools and services I tend to chuckle when I see these ratings. It is sheer advertising for the professionals and does nothing to help the consumer. Entertaining? Yes. Useful? No.

So, Mollie Reilly, why don't you do some real investigative reporting and find out WHY those that make the list are on it year after year. I would read that article!

She works for Washingtonian magazine, why would she do investigative reporting? She works for a glossy ad mag. She knows her audience. If you want something substantive, look elsewhere. There are other mags. that do that.

Washingtonian 'best doctors' is the biggest farce.. well-connected docs are surveyed and list other well connected docs. many of those very same docs (especially pediatricians) are lambasted routinely in dcum. I wish the washingtonian wasn't so lazy.

Let's boycott the Washingtonian! Actually, I've been doing just that for years.

Aren't there better ways to get rankings for schools, docs, etc rather than just surveys? Washingtonian 'best docs' is such a farce! They need to stop being so lazy & superficial- many of the same 'best docs' are regularly lampooned here on dcum. I guess its the problem with print these days..they're so behind the times.

W&L seemed out of place there... just saying.

I've never seen an ad for Komi in Washingtonian. Or Citronelle. Or Inn at Little Washington. Or...any of the top restaurants. They don't need to advertise.

if you think Citronelle is worht half of what it costs to go there I suggest you learn about food -it sucks. Inn at Little Washignton is now average at best and have never been to the other place. DC sucks for eating out

Washingtonian's top school lists are better than Newsweek's!

So the purpose of the survey is just to get quotes, instead of changing any school's position as a "top school?"
