I don’t necessarily think it was a PR thing; the day has always been meaningful to him, and he felt the need to honor that in some way, all these miles away.

But he’s not royalty here; we don’t have royalty in the USA, and the gestures and traditions that carried great weight and significance in England have no real meaning or impact here.
All of the gravitas is gone - poof. That has to be hard.

He needs to honor the dead with a professional photographer documenting everything?

DP. I have a family member who is a Korean War vet that has done something similar for Veterans Day. Does not seem that weird.

He hired a photographer to take pictures of him placing flowers at graves? My father was a WWII, Vietnam and Korean War vet and woukd never have drawn attention to himself for paying his respects to his fallen comrades.

PP. so what? Even if that were true (which the time span from WWII to Vietnam seems unlikely) your father isn’t some special authority on what my relative or any other vet does.

It is true. He signed up right out of high school like many other patriotic Americans. Sorry you don’t know your history.

You’re right I don’t know your history of mental illness and psychotic delusions.

PP You’re a hateful ungrateful snit. My grandfather served in all three wars too. He dropped out of high school at 16 and lied about his age to enlist. He was trying to escape trouble from being in the family bootlegging business. He went straight into battle. To the other poster, we have something in common, military heroes for grandfathers.

Yes we do, thank you (and the other pp) for responding. They were definitely heroes who loved their country.

Harry and Meghan have reportedly quietly handed over the keys to Frogmore Cottage to Princess Eugenie and her husband, and shipped out their own belongings. Daily Mail reports that the senior royals were not consulted beforehand.

LOL The Daily Mail lied. Aren't they the ones that insisted Harry was on his way back to the U.K. in September/October/November/December for a right 'thrashing' from the Queen? Guess its hard to thrash a grown man who is living his life 3,000 miles away in another hemisphere.

The British press are also crazy - you want them gone, you want them back, you want them away. Which is it?

The Prince of hearts will never be coming back. Unless for a funeral. Sucks for the BRF - should have taken them up on their half-in, half-out offer. Now you've got 4 senior royals out of commission thanks to Covid (Queen/Phillip/Charles/Camilla) and 2 senior royals who alternate between being lazy and 'stressed' about zooming too much.

The majority of England is in the Western Hemisphere. You may have heard about GMT? North America is in the Western Hemisphere as well. Furthermore, London to La is over 5000 miles when you take into that body of water that separates us, the Atlantic Ocean.

After watching The Crown season 4, I see why Megan & Harry left!

Huh? None of the senior royals are out of commission. And really he’s trashed his own popularity - not sure the UK wants him back after his hissy fit with the queen about how she’s not the boss of the word “royal.” He used to be funny and light hearted and came across as earnest and thoughtful. Now he comes across as self absorbed, money obsessed and jealous of petty slights. I wonder what changed .....

Why? Because they don’t like living in a fictional Hollywood world?

Phillip's turning 100 and the Queen is 94. They've been in a specialized quarantine called 'HMS Bubble' since March to protect them against the virus. They live in isolation with a limited staff on retainer at Windsor Castle that rotates out every few weeks in order to keep them safe. The Queen isn't even seeing the Prime Minister in-person. So very few engagements or visits for a woman who used to top 400 a year.

Charles and Camilla are the same both being in their early 70s and particularly vulnerable to infection. Add on to the fact that both Charles and William got Covid early on, Andrew is sidelined for being a pedophile, Anne is 70 and also on lockdown, and that leaves who under 50 that aren't vulnerable to a viral plague?

A pregnant Eugenie and Beatrice (neither of whom are working royals). William. Kate. Sophie. Edward.

It’s laughable to think the downfall of the Crown will come because gringe & cringe took their toys and ran away to LA.

Downfall - maybe, maybe not. But I wouldn't want to be EIIR right now with no one to put forward - its the Queen that said 'I have to be seen to be believed'.

None of them are being seen very much now, Britain it teetering on a no-deal Brexit, their economy is in recession, rats are fleeing the Downing Street ship, 75% of her family is out of action, and all of the major events that usually bring about unity - the Trooping of the Colour, State Banquets, Royal Wedding (Beatrice), the Annual Garden Parties, Ascot, State Opening of Parliament, Remembrance Day were cancelled or so scattershot they might as well have been invisible.

Some of you (most) might hate Harry + Meghan but even you have to admit that since they left in early March (oddly enough) shit has gone downhill for the Royals like crazy. The press was practically salivating at the possibility of showing how well the BRF would do without them instead they've gotten cancelled weddings, cancelled major state ceremonies, practically zero royal appearances and hilariously enough - the entire family is separated for the whole year in different regions (or in Charles case - countries).

Season 4 of the Crown has certainly taken a turn painting the royals in a terrible light, especially Charles. I can’t imagine the royals are happy with the Netflix deal at this point!

They should have said something when the Crown was in Seasons 1-3 then.
