A cousin is getting married in Steamboat Springs, CO in June and we're debating whether we take the kids with us and make a vacation out of it.
I'm just having a hard time envisioning what we could do with kids that age in CO that they would enjoy. Ideas? Feedback? |
| Explain to me why you wouldn't take them. |
| sounds like a great place for a vacation with little ones. |
| Sure. Colorado is awesome. Lots of outdoor stuff to do. |
| We live in Colorado and it's awesome for kids. Haven't made it to Steamboat yet, but I'm sure there are plenty offbeat activities for families. Just remember you'll need extra sunscreen and lots of hydration at high altitude. |
| PP here, not sure where autocorrect came up with offbeat, should just be "of". |

Yes, take the kids! So much to do in Colorado in the mountains during the summer. The ski resort in Steamboat may have a
summer set-up for kids (I know resorts like Winter Park set up a huge mountain slide, climbing area, etc) as well as a ton of trails in the area easy to hike with kids, and you are surrounded by National Parks, etc. We have family in Colorado and take our 3 yr old out at least 3-4 times a year and she loves it. |
| I'm confused. Why wouldn't CO be fun for kids? |
|
They have kids in Colorado.
|
| I think it's always good for kids to travel and see other parts of the country. Agree with pp's that I'm not sure why you wouldn't consider taking them. My kids had been to probably 15 states by the time they were that age - from California to Florida to Massachusetts. |

I'm taking a 1 and 3 year old to Colorado on June and I think we'll have a great time.
Do you know something I don't? Do they not have whole milk and Elmo there? |
| We took my DS to Colorado when he was 4 and 5. Great place to visit in the Summer. So much to do outdoors. Sigh, I so wish we could move there! If you have the opportunity....GO! I can't imagine you would regret it. |
| OP, here. The responses are hilarious! Really shows what an East Coast girl I am - I know how to entertain young children at the ocean beach or in a city. I thought big mountain areas could only be really enjoyed/appreciated by older kids for hiking, fishing, etc. |
You may want to do more research on this. Are there medical services available in Colorado? Do they have potable water? What happens if there's civil unrest of the kind we're seeing in so many other far-flung places around the globe. Whatever you decide, you'll want to check the State Department's website, but I personally would not risk it. |

Check to see if there are any old mines that you could visit/tour.
I think the govt or the University of Denver has an observatory somewhere in Rocky Mountain national park, don't know if its close to your site but you might want to check and see if it open/allows tours. Visit and hike the area, yes I know you got little ones, but walking around the bend and looking at Mother Nature (streams, vegetation, animals - a deear or two) is a wonder to them....also, don't want to cause a panic but bring some pepper spray/mace if you do go hiking...there are bobcats in the Rockies. |
