The team below her is not good (~150 ranked) but there are no other clubs that work for our specific situation, so there are girls that are going to get short end of the stick out there.

Your daughter sounds like a phenom! Top 3 player on a top 25 team nationally!? You have solid options. If she's one of the best players on her team I doubt the club wouldn't want her to play up, even with some girls added for consideration due to the age change.

The other possibility is that the not so good team a year down becomes vastly better with new players.

The reality is no matter what the age range formation, kids will still be placed with other comparably skilled players.

How do you even rank teams in a way that makes sense?

So you dont believe in actuarial science, medical research, economic trends, sports gambling, etc either?

They’re 10, 11, 12, 13, 14 years old!

In the men’s side of the game, rankings don’t mean anything at all. It’s about who wins titles. That’s it!

The Europeans and South Americans don’t obsess over idiotic rankings and they totally kill is on the pitch.

Thank goodness we now know why the Europeans and South Americans are better than the US in soccer. It is our obsession over rankings! Is this just for soccer? Or do we not obsess over rankings in basketball? So stupid…………

The Europeans are better at basketball. The difference is we have 340 million people while their biggest country has 80 million.

Combine enough countries in Europe to make up a population of 340 million and they’d be vastly superior to us in that sport as well.

Same thing with baseball. Other countries are better.

Only 4X more American born players in the NBA vs the rest of the world combined. But we already determined your lack of math skills.

I think the original point was still a good team and a good player on a good team. Maybe to you there is no difference between SoCal Blues NL team and Arlington RL team but I can assure you that there is. Vast difference. If it were your kid you would want them to play against the top level of competition in practice and game play because that is the best way to get better. Otherwise just sign your kid up for AYSO if there is no difference. Save a ton of money in club fee and travel expenses.

How in the world do you think rankings are derived? Could the higher ranked teams be those that have performed well, won games and won titles? Or do you think they randomly draw them out of a hat?

I think you are confusing outliers in drawing your conclusion. Yes, of the top 10 NBA right now, 5 are probably foreign born. But as the numbers go up the US dominance is apparent. Maybe 7/20, 10/30, 12/40 to maybe 18/100

Real Madrid has a higher ranking and UEFA coefficient than Barcelona, but Barcelona is a better team this season as shown by the number of trophies won.

How does that soccer rankings app work? I put all the ECNL playoff games in the prediction function on the app and it predicted 3 wins for my kid’s team. How reliable is the app? I just started using it.

Real Madrid are “higher” ranked than Barcelona (UEFA coefficient). But Barca are a better team as shown by the number of trophies won by each and head to head match ups.

Anyone that knows anything about statistics understands that garbage in, garbage out. It’s how you set up the analysis that matters.

No one with any brains is going to argue that Real Madrid is a better team right now than Barcelona “because rankings!!”

80% accurate overall
90% accurate if youre playing the same teams over and over again.

I happen to know quite a bit about statistics and know not to cherry pick individual outcomes to disprove the basic law of large numbers……..

Without knowing anything else about the FIFA rankings whatsoever, based on common sense, I would trust their statisticians over a random guy on the internet who likes Barca…………….

If you are the prior poster who stated “hOw WoUlD YoU eVeN dO tHaT” and then had it explained to you in total and complete detail then we dont need to waste any more time.

It is just one tool to use. It “only” takes into account past performance as indicator of future performance. It obviously cant take into account external factors like weather, injuries to star players, guest players, pitch conditions, length of game, individual matchups, etc.

Use it as a general guideline, but dont go to Vegas with it.

FIFA uses the ranking for seedings. That, in and of itself, is very meaningful.
