ECNL moving to school year not calendar

So for ulittles (u9-u12) there is no if ands or buts as far as changing from BY to SY right? These age groups will 100% have to change. It’s just u13 and beyond where there is still questions. Do I have that right?

Everyone is changing to 8/1 if you belong to a league governed by US Club, USYS, AYSo.

ECNL will be 8/1.

There's still plenty of time to make 2 or 3 more changes

You have that wrong. There will be no "grandfathering", no matter how much people ask for it. It will be 8/1 to 7/31 registration for all USYS and US Club teams. If anyone wants to play up, they can do that.

And NCSL is governed by USYS right? So they will love to 8/1 SY?

The team below her is not good (~150 ranked) but there are no other clubs that work for our specific situation, so there are girls that are going to get short end of the stick out there.

After addition of your daughter, they will go up to 125th place.

New ECNL podcast is out.
Summary MLSN sucks because they don’t let kids play high school. ECNL is great because they give kids the option.

Ironic considering MLS Academy players are colleges first choice for recruits.

well sure that is the core difference in rules.

But what they miss is that MLS and ECNL serve different audiences--each side should just embrace that. ECNL kids want college exposure. MLS kids want pro exposure. The pro kids don't care about playing in HS--but the college kids- its an experience they want. Both of these leagues send lots and lots of kids to college--to say otherwise would be false. Only MLS has cornered the market on pro where ECNL can't compete.

Based on commitments, seems like 5X more MLSN kids play college than turn pro……🙄

That’s because playing college is substantially easier than playing pro MLS.

It has everything to do with control, has nothing to do with playing pro or college. MLSN just wants full access to their players year round. Which that’s up to the families and players to make that choice.

Nope, MLS knows that High School soccer translates to injuries. The injuries arent worth the subpar HS play.

Leagues can still choose to do this.

Which leagues can do this? I understand the sentiment, but there is no way this gets phased in. Rip the band aid and get it over with. It will suck for a year, and then things will even out. Changing teams, adding players, getting a new coach, etc. aren't bad things. It happens all the time anyway. Getting the age cutoff aligned as closely as possible with school year is the best option. It should have never changed to begin with.

Any league associated with USYS AYSO or US Club.

They just have to say yes we're implementing SY with an 8/1 cutoff in 26/27 but its only for u13 and below.

I dont understand why everyone thinks theres crazy rules and theyre all written in stone.
Nice try but wouldn't work because then U14 would have only 7 months available to make teams from and would totally shaft that age group.

So what? U14 is the trapped year anyway.

The idea is to not disrupt older players because its harder for them to move around. At u13 everyone is still switching teams all the time. Let the older players just age out without any big changes.
The idea to go to SY is to disrupt the all the age groups. Some just fear change, it will be all good. At the older ages, it will just take me time to swap out former older players with new older players so teams can take advantage of being older.
