Will Whittle be around next year?

How many kids are in the school? When I pulled my daughter out last year there were only 3 kids left in her 5th grade class.

We left 5th over the Christmas break. There were 6 at that time. Where did you end up?

Note that I’m saying “discounted tuition” rather than financial aid as it’s a for-profit school with contributions (excluding the current scrounging for cash).

I have a theory that one of the many issues (beyond, you know, that Chris Whittle is a Madoff wannabe), is that the revenue side of the house is a disaster. In addition to lower than desired enrollment, I suspect that a massive percentage of families are paying little to nothing.

I think that his philosophy is probably the same as every dot com or online sports book book out there…take the losses early to get folks in the door. He thought his “revolutionary” approach to education would be such a aphrodisiac to the elites (both in DC and China) that he could eventually charge whatever we wants.

He is, of course, batshit nuts and and a criminal.

Just curious if anyone has actual info on discounted tuition %.

Thanks.

According to the web, everyone is getting 40% off. https://dc.whittleschool.org/tuition-benefits

Our local public school. Many more kids but so much better academically.

In terms of number of kids in Whittle, the Burke Whittle MS basketball game last week had three Whittle students in the stands while Burke parents and kids basically filled the place up 40+ folks). My kid said nearly all the kids cheering for Whittle were Burke kids cheering for both teams. The only two sets of Whittle parents I saw…one was a teacher (kid is free tuition?) and the other set of parents were perhaps diplomats (dripping with LV)…

This is so sad. Those poor children!

Parents are now plotting to kick CW out and find a way to take control of the school the way parents at the Avenue schools did.

With what money? How will they entice other families to continue to stay? They should have kicked CW out last year, but it seems too late now.

Where is the board of directors in all of this?

Allegedly, they resigned en masse at some point.....Maybe in the past six months or so? It was alleged on this board somewhere, I believe.

If that's true -- Nice to know they took their responsibilities as watchdogs for an operating for-profit school full of kids aged 2 to 18 so seriously that when they saw spotted trouble they just tiptoed away, presumably without linforming any potential victims what the problem was.

As if the captain and officers of the Titanic had slithered quietly into a lifeboat under cover of darkness and rowed away as fast as they could when they noticed the iceberg.

Exactly! Who were the Board of Directors/Investors? When did they leave? Why did the leave? Why weren't the parents notified of the current financial status until December 2021? With all the NDAs signed I doubt the truth will ever come out.

Public schools accept everyone.

Well, they accept everyone who lives within their boundaries. Does Whittle still have boarding students?

Yes, there still are some boarding students. These boarding students are either in 11th or 12th grade. I really feel for the seniors who might not have their graduation.

This scam will be over well before June. Im guessing by March 15 doors will be closed.
