What are you doing to aid relief in Japan? Any good resources for people wanting to help locally?

Please post any local relief efforts you know of, especially those in which kids may be able to take part. We learned after Haiti that it feels good for the whole family to feel as though we are doing something -- anything -- to help.

Thanks.

I hate to say it but wouldn't you do more good by continuing to give to Haiti? Japan, like the US is one of the richest nations in the world. The other western nations should of course lend any immediate logistical, technological, and medical aid as well as work toward debt restructuring to rebuild from the economic destruction but for general philanthropy there are other places that have a far greater need. Japan on its worst day is still nowhere near as bad as Haiti still is today.

I can't stand posts like this. Why in the world would you discourage someone from helping the people of Japan?

Have you seen the photos? Do you realize what is happening there? There is a HUGE, IMMEDIATE need for aid, and there will be for quite some time.

Bumping. I think I would prefer to give to a local organization that is helping in Japan as well-one that is trustworthy. For some reason I no longer give to the red cross and I can't recall why.

Another poster here who's not a Red Cross fan.

There are some links in this thread (that I also bumped):
