What's a Good Charity in Japan?

Anonymous
If anyone comes across a good Japanese charity, could you post here and let us know? Red Cross is good, but I'm looking for other charities as well.

Try Direct Relief International:

http://www.directrelief.org/

Or, International Rescue Committee:

http://www.rescue.org/

Both appear to be highly rated by Charity Navigator (meaning they use their funds well). Good alternatives to Red Cross.

Bump. Please consider donating if you can.

Another bump for the people in the other thread.

I donated to direct relief...

serious question - but do they really *need* monetary donations?

What are you asking? Do you mean, should we send food instead?

Monetary donations are the easiest in a tragedy like this. The organizations can use them for whatever purpose is necessary - shelter, medical supplies, food, coffins.

Sadly, even coffins are in short supply:

What I am asking is that Japan is a wealthy nation not an an under developed country like Haiti and presumably has many resources available so are the really in dire financial straights.

Also, it doesn't say they can't afford to obtain more coffins...it just says the don't have the supply of coffins available which seems logical considering the article states most people choose cremation.

1. Red Cross
2. Doctors without Borders
3. International Medical Corps

We are also a wealthy nation and not under developed and we received LOTS of aid from Japan fir Katrina. So you think we should take but not give? How very Christian of you.

Really? Did the US really take LOTS of foreign aid in the terms of actual money contributions Or did countries and individauls donate to chartities that are not actually are not run or overseen by the US govt.

I would also guess the Japanese people themselves are donating to these charities just like we as Americans donated to Katrina, etc.

I think the lack of actual charities to donate to says something. Also many people specifically said they did not want to donate to the Red Cross.

Here's a link about Japan's(and other countries') donations after hurricane Katrina.

You can donate directly to Japan's Red Cross here if you have a Google account.

So, just because Japan is a "wealthy" nation, we shouldn't help them in an emergency? These are extenuating circumstances. And, personally, to me, it makes no difference whether or not Japanese people helped out after Katrina (even though they did). They are in need now, and we should help. That's it. End of story.

Doesn't your heart go out to these people? Mine sure does.

Yes, they do need money in Japan. Please help if you can.
