ECNL moving to school year not calendar

That feels somewhat fair. My July birthday son was always small on school teams but middle-of-the pack on club teams.

How is disadvantaging him more consistently considered fair?

He is also youngest in the school / class and challenged academically against oldest boys / girls. Means June/July kids will absorb all the age disadvantages now. We are in the same shoes, but life is not supposed to be fair - that is fine 😀

What a turn of events. Cant wait to hear how the ECNL leaders spin this. They were all in on Sept 1 and then when they actually started thinking about it, they realized it was dumb.

For the billionth time MLSN exists to identify players for MLS Acadamies. If you're not playing up and dominating against older players you wont get a spot on an Academy team. In the Academy world biobanders are crash test dummies. Nobody cares if you win by playing down because you'll never get selected to play at the next level on an Academy team.

So, what are you trying to say? Making zero sense?

So, what is it exactly you are trying to say?

What I'm saying is while you consider biobanding cheating others view biobanding as an opportunity for younger players to get experience playing against older players in a limited format. If players are able to do well against older biobanders they can consider playing up. If players can play up and be dominate it will garner Academy attention and ideally an invite to an academy evaluation session.

Theres no equivalent to this is ECNL boys or girls because leagues are age stratified. Unless you consider getting on a super team equivalent to playing an Academy team (its not).

I wonder which parent will continue to fund a kid that's biobanding when its a difficult situation to be in.

I realize some clubs use biobanding for wins or as a way to play more players. But ideally biobanded players are smaller than their equivalent age counterparts and usually before puberty. The expectation is that after growing a little more (hitting puberty late) they'll catch up in size and play with others their age again.

In a league like ECNL a MLSN biobanded player would just get cut. Pick your poison as to which way to handle the situation is better.

No, the BY people dont really care.

At least US Club identified the issue with 9/1 and changed to 8/1.

SY still sucks but it sucks less now that theres almost zero trapped players.

It’s a forgone conclusion that GA and all other leagues will go BY. Only wildcard is MLSN, but the writing is on the wall that it will go SY too

And what exactly is the writing? (Coming from a person who also thinks MLSN will go SY)

That every other league is going to switch to SY. MLSN isn’t as cool as they think they are and most parents aren’t concerned with the “pro” pathway that is extremely rare to achieve.

Not really, GA could stay BY but allow 6 4 month bioband positions per team. This gives the same as SY with an 8/1 cutoff. Or GA could do BY+40. Or GA could fully align with MLS staying BY and letting MLSN2 and Aspire be SY 8/1.

I mean BY+120 not BY+40
