ECNL moving to school year not calendar

Theres still a few trapped players from July school cutoffs but its like .0001% of the players. Just need to setup a waiver process for the last edge case situations and all trapped players are addressed.

Whoa!! Wasn't expecting a wholesale change.

Not to run it in but I was the one way back who said GA is going 8/1 and everyone called me a mad man.

It's a smart decision. It was obvious that 9/1 would have still had a large number of trapped players. Over time this would have undermined the switch to SY from BY.

Allowing a few older grade players to play down in certain districts is a better option than a large number of trapped players being forced to play up.

Does this mean ENCL and GA have to switch or I am guessing they can stay 9/1?

I bet US Club heard that GA would do 8/1 so they made the change ASAP.

GA is "helping" ECNL to do the right thing and not shoot themselves in the foot with SY.

US Club = ECNL

It means ECNL will be 8/1

GA hasn't announced anything but it was rumored that they planned to do 8/1.

This is a most thrilling day in my soccer mom life (mom of 2 August kids). Finally!

What a stupid decision therefore this does not surprise me. All the August birthdays that went to school on time will be misaligned.

All the August birthdays can play with their grade now, so how is that stupid?

They have to consciously know that players on their team are not in their grade. And would then need to play up being at an even larger disadvantage than if the cut off was 9/1. Most parents sign their kids up for soccer, put in birthday, system registers you for an age group. A couple years of rec pass and you think oh I should try out for travel. Once you realize your kid is really into this wow their doing great, then you realize you need to actually have your kid play up a year. How early or late this realization happens will have impacts. Not everyone pays attention to how things go, they sign their kid up and that is it.

Nope they can choose to play on a team with kids in their grade or they can choose to play down. Clubs will just ask Aug birthday kids what grade they are in school and put them on the right team.

You understand this is for rec too right. This is when kids start out in the sport. I guess we will all find out. But this just got alot messier.

Yes, this happened to us with BY. Signed up our kids to play rec with their grade, q4 bday. Obviously they were behind. Kids were playing 7 v 7 and since we signed up for their grade they were still doing 4 v 4.

With these new dates for travel, if you sign your kid up for rec to play with their grade they will be fine.
