Academics at Georgetown Prep

Can anyone provide some insight into the academics at GP. How (1) challenging and (2) engaging are the classes? How are are teachers?

Academics are secondary to sports. No one here who has a kid that goes there will say it but it's true.

Not true. My son is in several AP and honors classes and plays varsity sports. The faculty are the best aspect at GP.
Good luck in your decision.

To the parent with student(s) at GP - what specifically makes the falculty special? Are the classes engaging (ie., active discussions verse more lectures)? Are the AP/honors class much different from the regular classes? Do parents have opportunity to see classes in action?

In what way?

Athletics are KING at Prep. School has always cared more about its Washington Post ranking than academic reputation. St. Albans has the right balance between top notch academics and well respected athletic program as well as an excellent arts program.

St. Albans has a well respected athletic program? What are you talking about?

I'm the original poster and thank everyone for taking the time to comment. However, I am looking for specific examples/comments of what the classes are like, style, dynamics, etc. Amount/depth of class discussions? Do/how do teachers motivate students? How engaged are the students? Amount of lecturing? Is the amount of homework exhausting the students? Someone said the faculty was great. Why? Thank you for sharing your experience.

Then Prep must have an out of this world athletic program, because the academics are on par with sta:

Ignorant post. STA is not as strong as Prep in athletics (Prep's student body is 50% bigger, of course) but has very strong programs historically in Sports such as cross-country, track, crew, baseball, and lacrosse (and the football team has won its league 3 out of the last 4 years.) Lots of college athletes come out of STA. Very silly to say it does not have a well-respected athletic program.
