She has lost a lifelong friendship, had to move out of her home due to threats, and may have seriously damaged her legal career. That is what you call a character witness. She swore to these things in a sworn statement, and she had a list of other witnesses who also would swear to it. Since the WH refused to let the FBI investigate it, we have no other evidence than him saying "I'm not in a gang!" and her putting up her sworn statement and backing it with a security clearance she would lose if she lied.
