The flood risk is not overstated. Alexandria has a huge flooding problem, especially in the Del Ray area. The system is already overstressed and old. It's well known that the city wasn't even clearing storm drains until they were exposed by citizens and jounalists in the last few years.

Nope. Not on BIBA. But nice Ad Hominem attack. Really proves your assertion that Alexandria doesn't have a severe flooding problem.

This is the best part about the Arena (and somewhat zoning for housing) the Del Ray Hypocrites now align with BIBA, and they really do not know what to do. How can they show their face at St. Elmo’s for morning coffee? Sip a craft brew on the front porch? Give something away on buy nothing (both north and south Del Ray pages)?

WTF are you smoking?

I love the Alexandria threads. It brings out all the jealous crazies. And the flood lady. So much entertainment.

DC in general I think is more interesting but compared to NYC, Chicago, Miami, you are joking that it's a top city.

It's all relative really, around here I couldn't be happier geographically living elsewhere because of the proximity to Old Town Arlington DC. But if u has a choice, I'd be in an actual city.

On the topic of the stadium, I think it's a bad move for us locals but a practical decision by Ted. Not sure how much $$ he'll make but if the teams are good, I think people will show up. There's a ton of mediocre restaurants and I'm always surprised how people flock there. I really think that people will do the only thing they can if no other choices.

I think it's a huge devastating loss to DC but they messed up. I think this will ultimately happen in PY though I don't have every confidence it'll be awesome, I do think it will work for Ted.

I have to disagree on a bunch of those points. Sure, Clarendon has some good restaurants and things but it's a fcking mess in every other way. Traffic sucks, as does urban planning and there's barely any green space to break up all the concrete. As for DC's status as a city, I'd agree NYC gives it a run for its money on theater and other things but then it drops off fast. Beyond the Met, what world class museums does NYC have? Most of the handful of others like the Guggenheim are barely an hour or two's worth of visit. I mean, Cloisters is cool, Morgan is cool but then what? Many of them don't even have reserves or rotating exhibits, you see it once and it's done. And sure, there's Broadway but man, so much of that's gone scammy and overrated as well. As for your other cities, Chicago, Miami... are you fzcking kidding? What's so damn special about those. Go see the Bean and the Museum of Science and Industry, pass out on a slab of that cheese casserole they call pizza in Chicago, so what? Ay, cuban sandwich and salsa dance in Miami! Don't trip over the dead body in the parking lot tho.

As for the stadium, look man... these guys are paying hundreds of millions in contracts for players. LUDICROUS that they then come to us taxpayers and tell us that we have to cough up billions to build a stadium for those overpriced players to play in. If Virginia's a big enough sucker to pay for it, so be it. For me so what - it's like 20 minutes further on the Metro if they end up at Potomac Yards. I don't feel a pressing need to pay 2 billion for that. And oh, 2 billion is only the starter. It will be a lot more. Need we remind you Ted is already a billionaire.

You can't possibly claim DC has more status than Miami as if Miami is all Cuban sandwiches and salsa. Go to any trendy neighborhood in Miami and you will find delicious world cuisine with few chain restaurants. You need to dress fashionably and be in decent shape though, probably an issue for DC people.

There are also nightclubs people around the world flock to but DC types wouldn't know how to even get in (no one there cares about politicians). Their art festivals are also more relevant than whatever DC puts together with its lack of any sort of creative class. There's a reason people, businesses, and sports teams are leaving DC.

Sorry but who cares about any of what you said?

Ted is making the value of the 70 acres as well as the 2 billion dollars in cash he is being given to develop those 70 acres. He is also being given the value that someone (Alexandria? Virginia?) will need to spend - estimated at $300 million - to upgrade the metro station.

The debt service that the taxpayers of Alexandria and Virginia will be paying is another billion.

And for that, the region gets an entertainment complex on an already crowded Route 1 with double track metro access that cannot be expanded.

I am not sure how DC "messed up" - they don't have 70 acres to simply give to Ted Leonsis. They offered up the money he asked for to renovate the arena. they also gave him, a few years earlier, $80M to build a Wizards practice facility in Southeast Washington.

It is clear this deal was in the works for months, if not years, given how far back Ted and Glen go in Northern Virginia business circles, but to suggest that DC messed up when there was never going to be a comparable offer is misplaced.

The question now is if Virginia and Alexandria taxpayers are going to accept the liability on 2 billion in bonds and another billion in debt service should the ticket sales and concessions on a hard to reach arena don't pan out.

Probably no more than the 50 pages of DC posters hoping someone takes their complaints or predictions seriously. I just needed to let pp know they were way out of bounds thinking DC is even in the same league as Miami. You don't see Miami sports teams moving up to Jupiter, FL which is basically what is happening to DC here. But enjoy your fancy lunch burrito at your newly developed Moe's.

DC losing the Caps and Wizards is partly a result of the failure of workers to return to the office. Businesses closing, commercial real estate failing, services for the city being reduced.
Without the commuters DC as a city will continue to be a poor option for businesses.
Don’t think there aren’t moneyed interests in more economically certain, diverse, and vibrant areas looking to snatch the nats or commanders.
Businesses follow the money. Ask Oakland.

1000% true. It's fun to watch and it's not just Del Ray. All my neighbors who voted for Wilson and this council are so upset about this and SFZ being abolished. The YIMBY's are so fun to watch.

The profile of the typical DC criminal doesn’t fit their woke narrative. Everything needs to be blamed on white supremacists.
