FCPS is turning the new high school purchased to fix crowding into an Aviation magnet school instead of a high school??

Yes those were exact words.

Reid has used the expression "drafty drafts" multiple times. It's a cutesy term for "garbage work" that would shame a sixth grader.

Meanwhile a member of the Board of Supervisors has come out with a blistering criticism of FCPS's purchase of KAA, pointing out the lack of any rigorous analysis or justification for all the taxpayer money being spent:

https://myemail.constantcontact.com/CORRECTION--Hundreds-of-Millions-for-a-New-High-School-We-Don-t-Need-and-More.html?soid=1102318968708&aid=-aO4IbDfKhE&fbclid=IwY2xjawNnYSBleHRuA2FlbQIxMABicmlkETFGQnVRWlI2ZWtRb0R5Q2NLAR4TcpLn_gcL3QzEe0Yc_N3eJeetBYmHupsbmDUS5s822EKuo5heqz2PBL5QQw_aem_ootdsS7TfplxZ1EUi814LQ

You'd think they would at least do the bare minimum to get the numbers right. To get the $62 million dollar figure they are combining the top end of Erik Gordon's $30-$50 million "all in" number (which he came to by upping the $4.2 million each for the two extra buildings to $12 million plus $20 million, "maybe less for a traditional school"). So they are double counting the $12 million for those buildings by adding it back into the highest $50 million all-in value which was the extra conservative number in case it was to be turned into an expensive academy school with specialized equipment.

Serious question: When was the last time FCPS came in under budget?

Yes. But, those are exactly their talking points. The Nextdoor people have been pretty clear and one, in particular, has repeatedly exaggerated the expenses.

Herrity is great.

He is the last remaining moderate in northern Virginia. Fairfax County used to have moderate dems and reps just like him, who were fiscally responsible and worked together.

McLaughlin was the last remaining moderate on the dem side.

I wish we could vote out all the mono party and elect a bunch of McLaughlins and Herritys

Maybe so. The expense is still significant and the justification is still more of a "want" than a "need."

And Herrity's right to say they are full of crap to claim the purchase results in "savings." They'll never earmark any of these purported "savings" for any other school project because the savings are an illusion.

Pat Herrity is not a moderate. He's a nepo-baby, failed attempt to be Lt. Governor, and is a full on Youngkin lackey. His whole thing is being the only Republican, anti-Democrat voice. Moderate is not the base he goes for.

It's funny you'd say Herrity didn't do this analysis, when the School Board hadn't done any analysis before voting to buy KAA and many of the SB members had still never set foot in the building as of a few weeks ago.

At least he subscribed to an analysis. The School Board votes first and then maybe asks questions later.

Oakton parents freaking out about being rezoned to the new high school. Do they know something we don’t? I haven’t seen any sort of maps yet.

There is a group that has been trying to organize a petition for a few weeks now. Are they at the meeting?

They all have middle schoolers, they just don't want their kids starting at a brand new school. The families with younger kids really want to be rezoned.

Kind of normal reaction. Hopefully, the principal will build some enthusiasm.
