I love our ES - Forest Knolls. My DS is in K - his teacher is wonderful, as are most of the K teachers from what I can tell and the PTA is one of the most active in the county (as per volunteer hours). My son is engaged and learning a lot. The reading and math are differentiated and change through out the year, as needed.
All this said as a big 3 grad (husband is a catholic school big 3 grad) who, no thanks to DCUM, was freaked out about public school in general esp. on this side of the county. Turns out there are wonderful schools here you just have to do research, and we are quite happy. Anyone else care to chime in about EMoCo schools? |
Really happy with Oakland Terrace. |
Just love Stonegate ES and White Oak MS. |
Yes, my child is at Pine Crest and it's a great school, really well run. He loves it there.
I have lots of friends with kids at Silver Spring International MS who are very happy too. |
Our kids thrived at Silver Spring International. Great staff and admin. An island of calm and high function, they focus on helping every kid work up to their potential. |
Just the name of some of these schools sound like housing projects. |
What an asshole thing to say. |
As opposed to, say, Westland MS, which sounds like a mall? |
love Westover ES |
There are enough mopey, shaggy hair EMo kids already. As a Big 3 (double-Ivy) grad, I don't have anything positive to say about them, although my spouse (single-Ivy) was tricked, no thanks to all these threads on DCUM, into praising them and saying they'd grow out of it.

Are you sure you're posting on the right topic?

Hmmm, despite all of those degrees you don't sound too bright, a legacy I am guessing? |
You have issues. |
Takoma Park Middle School is an excellent school - very well-run, great sense of place and school spirit, and the principal is phenomenal.
I agree with the PP about Pinecrest Elementary. |
I have friends with kids at Sligo Creek, Silver Spring International, Takoma Park (non magnet), Blair, and Kennedy. They seem pretty universally happy.
My kid's at Westland (yes, it sounds like a mall!), and while I'm very happy, I don't think I'd be less happy at one of the schools I just listed. |
