Just the name of some of these schools sound like housing projects.

LOL. Come to think of it, Forest Knolls sounds like a rest home!

Sorry, totally was not happy with SSIMS.

The principal at New Hampshire Estates rocks.

Like seeing positive comments about NHE. This is DS's assigned school, but he has yet to start and we've been wrestling with the public/private question.

Hee hee! And a tacky mall, at that.

The reviews for Sligo MS are mixed when I read at:
http://www.greatschools.org/school/parentReviews.page?id=1006&state=MD
but we are years away from our child going there even if it is our MS.

Any opinions from those who have kids at Sligo MS?

DC had a good experience at SSIMS.

I'm not 19:41, but your snark is totally unjustified. I have heard, from parents with kids at SSIMS, that the teaching is really uneven. Some really great teachers, and some not-so-great teachers.

Wow - this thread about Sligo Middle is quite an eye-opener. I like the Woodside area but there is no way I am going to expose my children to that type of disruptive environment.

We love East Silver Spring ES. The principal and vice principal are awesome, and it is a great community school. We've been please with our child's teachers, and the class sizes are small.

I just read the thread you referenced and I don't see anything at all about a disruptive environment. The worst I see is that some people think it's just ok or choose to move when it comes to MS. That's true of any SS middle school.

Takoma Park MS is a warehouse for substandard staff and the negative energy is palpable.

I couldn't disagree more. My child is thriving there and with a couple of exceptions, I think the staff is outstanding.

Ditto. I have no idea which staff the original poster is talking about, because I can't think of any who are substandard.
