Let me guess, all this Bad Stuff is going to mean every right-wing policy will magically get enacted. *reads article* Yep, got it in one.

Seriously, until folks realize their THEIR/THEIR PARENTS' social security and THEIR Medicare are going to have to get cut, nothing will get done.

Look at the whining here about the suggestions of the commission a couple months ago, and look at the whining that goes on whenever anyone proposes the tiniest increase in taxes.

The reason why even Ryan isn't proposing cuts to SS and M/M (or even defense, look at the fight over that second engine no one but the politicians want) ... is because they know full damn well the heartland that swept them in will sweep them out because the government is meddling in their Social Security and Medicare.

The only thing where there's some degree of popular support for cuts is foreign aid, which is under 1% of the total budget (but if you poll the people, they think it's like 5-15%).

We knew social security and medicare were going to be a problem in the early 1980's, if not earlier, yet have done nothing to address it in all of these many decades.

if the congress does not CUT spending 10% in the next budget... U better sell stocks and buy gold bars. People who don't think numbers matter also thought fannie mae was solvent. Watch the budget battle closely and look out for yourself.

we resolved the ss "problem" in the 1980s, and then Bush gave all that money away as capital gains tax cuts for the wealthy. Even so, ss isn't the problem-- health care is (medicare, medicaid, and even insurance). If we can get health care costs under control we'll be ok, if not....

. Bush never lowered ss taxes . Bernie madoff congress stole the money and turned an insurance program into a ponzi scheme.
