2 Year Old Dragged into Water by Gator at Disney Resort

I'm a careful mom. I'm conservative about safety, for the most part.
My older kids were in 5 point harnesses a loooong time and I just turned my three year old forward facing.
I drag car seats on vacations.
My 10 year old still uses a booster because he is not quite the required 57 inches.

My kids have splashed in that very lagoon, while toddlers. I have photos of them. They aren't swimming - the water is only to their knees - but they are in the water. Just like this toddler. And loads of others.

They did nothing wrong.
And my heart aches for them.

I go weekly to walk there. The Polynesian and the Grand Floridian are on the same lagoon. There are definitely loungers on the beaches. You are 100 percent wrong.

But there are no lifeguards at the beach, and there are no swimming signs. The water is obviously not maintained for swimming. There's vegetation just a few inches out. So why would you think it's safe?

Did the alligator snatch someone off the loungers now? Disney does not say don't stand on the beach. It says stay out of the water.
