I'm not donating to a fund for sueing media outlets. That sounds like a money grab. If she decides to sue the actual guilty party, the person who posted the video, then I can support that. |
+1 it’s discouraging how many people are using this effed up overreach to say racist stuff. The poor woman’s misfortune is not an excuse to be racist! |
The only reason you know about this is because of how she was racially targeted. |
It’s not wrong to point out that the dynamics for what happened to her are not completely removed from the dynamics of lynching, IMO. Historically different, but still an unhinged mob going after her based on her race, and based on a false accusation that she crossed a line between the races and genders that they want to control. I agree that it is despicable to say “it’s just like Emmett Till” but they literally brought the analogy into it to begin with. It’s not wrong to point out that to the extent the analogy applies, it’s the reverse. And personally at this point, I’m kinda over people who would act like using the word “lynch” incorrectly is the same thing as actually lynching someone. |
…..which is not an excuse to be racist in return. |
Yes, she was racially targetted, first by the guys, then by social media. But what does turning this into a pi$$ing contest of racial slurs accomplish? They suck. We don't have to. |
I hope she gets something nice for her baby’s nursery. She deserves something nice out of this after being dragged through the mud for sport. |
No it’s not. But incidents like this, amplified by grifters like Benjamin Crump and Monique Judge, are red meat to actual racists, fanning the flames they created. Spare me from the pearl-clutching about inappropriate use of the word “lynch,” when it’s Crump and Judge who are hell-bent on an actual race war. |
What racial slurs? The stupid “Citibike Kareem” guy? Ok he can go. |
I agree with you. |
The money donated so far will probably barely cover the cost of their emergency relocation and lost wages. It’s not clear she will be able to return to that job at all. |
What lost wages? |
+1 |
PP here. also calling her the next Emmet Till. |
Gonna be mildly petty now.
Like 50 pages ago, before the receipts, people were arguing that the guy had a better claim to the bike because he had prepaid for a bike ride (he had a RIDE CODE, they said). And therefore any actions this woman took to claim the bike were de facto wrong (and racist) because he'd already paid and she hadn't. And I said "Well what if she was a CitiBike member? Wouldn't that mean she also prepaid?" And I was mocked for this and told I was tying myself into a pretzel to defend her. Well the receipts show she is indeed a CitiBike member. Oh yeah, and also that she rented the bike first. That guy had no business with the bike and was being a huge tool. End of pettiness. |
